This place!! San Juan La Laguna, Guatemala. Captured my heart. I was shy to talk to these smart ladies in their beautiful clothes, but they were so sweet, immediately happy to take a photo with me. They were amused and happy to know that I was intent on buying huipils (the traditional Guatemalan Mayan tunic worn by women). They wear art. And now, so do I. A day at the lake…Lake Atitlan in Guatemala sits in a volcanic crater at an elevation of over 5000 feet and depth of 1000+ feet making it the deepest lake in Central America, surrounded by traditional Mayan villages…Leaving from Panajachel, the gateway city to the villages it takes about 40 minutes by boat to the villages dotting the lake…often a very choppy ride!
