Came here as a girl with a lot to work on ✨
Leaving as a woman with a lot to work with🎓

3/3 Thee Jackson State University,

My dear old college home,

Now, JSU was not always peaches and cream. It challenged me in every way. I gained my independence here. I networked. I learned the importance of taking every opportunity, running with it, and making an impact in everything I do. JSU truly humbled me. And even though I drove back home every chance I could, I had to learn to survive on my own and take charge of handling everything.

I’m thankful for every friend I made, every advisor and staff member who helped me, and every part of Jackson State that kept me involved and moving forward. These past four years of undergrad have been busy, but they’ve been the best years at the best HBCU anyone could choose. I think I made Mommy Alumni very proud.

Thank you, Mommy,
for pushing me, for giving me everything I needed, for supporting me, and for laying a foundation so strong that I had no choice but to follow in your footsteps.

I miss you, Grandma. I love you.
I know you would be so proud. You’d be standing at the end of that stage, smiling from ear to ear, ready to give me that kiss. I know you’ll be at the ceremony tomorrow, walking me across that stage.

Thank you, God,
for ordering my steps and guiding me every day toward the life You designed for me. Thank You for giving me life, humility, and the faith in you to keep going.

2/3 Many believe that learning stops once you receive your degree, but only a true educator knows that it is just the beginning. Learning continues every single day. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life challenging little minds, and letting them challenge mine.

I often get asked, “Why early childhood education?” or “Why babies?” Honestly, there are so many reasons, and I truly can’t imagine doing anything else.

If you know me personally, you know that I was blessed with the biggest heart to nurture and care for those around me. For a long time, I thought this was a weakness, but it is actually the very thing that puts me in the rooms I’m in. It’s what brings me opportunities, earns me trust, and allows me to be sociable and respected.

Children always show unconditional love, and that’s what makes me love what I do. Seeing their faces light up and watching them reach new milestones is something I’ll never get tired of. It really does take a big heart to teach little minds, and no one can tell me otherwise.

In high school, I was privileged to gain early experience in the early childhood program, which sparked my interest in this field. Four and a half years ago, my nephew was born, and from the moment I began the experience with him, I immediately knew this was going to be my lifetime career.

With all that said, this is just the beginning.

1/3 To Thee Dynamic Delta Pi Chapter,

I am forever grateful to have become a woman of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Who would’ve thought that a little 6th-grade girl would see her dream come true during her final stretch of college? I thought it was just fun events that got us out of the house early on Saturday mornings (please!). I spent half of my life around the hardworking and dedicated women of DST, not realizing I’d be in their shoes, right at the forefront, a few years later. I can truly say they helped shape the woman I’ve become. Through it all, I remained true to myself. I did the work, I prayed, and of course, I had the GPA😉. Little did I know all along that there was no other way! In the Spring of ’24—March 10, to be exact, I began my own legacy. It’s one I will always honor and cherish.

To my pros:
You led with grace. You were always a great example of the standard that Delta women should uphold. It was truly a privilege to be brought up by the badDST on campus. You didn’t hand it to us, you made us work for it with every drop of blood, sweat, and tear! You never let us give up, no matter how badly we wanted to. Of course, we didn’t see it then, but you shaped us into the next group of women to lead and unapologetically, and to put our hands in a little bit of everything. I love y’all, and I can’t say thank you enough. #MySpecTheBestSpec

To my sisters, Thee 65 InDSTructible F.L.A.M.E.S.,
I love each and every one of you. Who would’ve thought a girl needed 64 sisters? Don’t answer that, lol. We cried, we argued, we laughed, but we got shhh done. And one thing’s for sure: we never played about each other. No one can break our bond, and definitely not this line, baby! The first thing people say about joining a sorority is that it’s about sisterhood. But you have to experience it to truly understand, it’s so much deeper than that. Jackson State raised me, but Delta Pi made me! Becoming a woman of Delta Sigma Theta was truly the finale of my undergrad years, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
