Today we’re sharing Jasmine’s real open myomectomy experience — from preparing for fibroid removal surgery to seeing what the first day after surgery was actually like.

If you’ve been diagnosed with uterine fibroids, are preparing for an open myomectomy, or are simply trying to understand what fibroid surgery can look like, we hope sharing Jasmine’s experience helps you feel more informed and a little less alone.

In this first part of the journey, Jasmine explains why she decided to have surgery, what an open myomectomy is, what led us to this point, and how she was feeling before going into the operating room.

We then take you with us through surgery day.

While Jasmine was in surgery, I sat down and shared what we had learned from her doctor, what was happening behind the scenes, and some of the things we had learned about her fibroids and the procedure that we honestly didn’t fully understand before going through this ourselves.

Then you’ll see Jasmine after surgery and what those first hours of recovery looked like through the end of Day 1.

We had many of those same questions.

This is not meant to replace medical advice, and every woman’s situation, surgery and recovery can be different. We’re simply documenting Jasmine’s personal experience as honestly as possible in hopes that it can help someone else walking into a similar situation.

There were emotional moments, scary moments, a lot of waiting, a lot of learning — and ultimately an enormous amount to be grateful for.

This is only the beginning of Jasmine’s recovery.

The next episode continues with Day 2 after her open myomectomy and shows what the hospital recovery process looked like as the reality of surgery really began to set in.

We Tried One of Houston’s BEST Pizza Spots… Was It Worth It? 🍕

We were told we HAD to try this Houston pizza spot… so of course we had to see if it was actually worth it. 🍕😂

This week’s vlog starts with a little Nick & Jasmine foolishness before we head out to support Zane at his basketball game. We bring you along for part of the game, catch up with him afterwards to hear how he felt about his performance, and then go looking for something good to eat.

That’s when we finally tried The Gypsy Poet… a Houston artisan pizza spot that was recommended to us by one of my physical therapists.

We ordered some food, took in the atmosphere and gave our real thoughts on whether the recommendation lived up to the hype.

After dinner we even squeezed in a little night out before calling it a day.

This isn’t one of the heavy injury/recovery episodes… just us getting back to normal life, supporting family, laughing way too much and exploring more of Houston together.

Exploring Houston for the Night… We Ended Up EVERYWHERE 😂

We went looking for Cinco de Mayo festivities around Houston… and the night definitely did NOT go the way we expected. 😂🇲🇽

What started with Cinco de Mayo food and drink specials at Chuy’s turned into an entire night of exploring Houston after we couldn’t really find the celebration we were looking for.

We visited Lyric Market for the first time, explored POST Houston and its incredible rooftop garden, walked around downtown, and eventually ended the night taking in the Houston skyline from Z on23.

And while this may not have turned into the wild Cinco de Mayo celebration we originally imagined, it ended up being something we honestly needed — another opportunity to get out of the house, explore our city, laugh together and slowly get back to enjoying normal life after everything we’ve been through this year.
