For Alan. 🕊🦕 🪦

Even having never watched a full Jurassic Park film, Sam Neil's recent passing has effected me deeply.

It's a weird thing, really. A large part of my upset isn't even losing him, but how detached I feel from it. Like I'm not as sad as I should be. As stupid as it is, I feel bad for not crying. For not feeling destroyed from the inside out.
I have come close to tears over it. Particularly when some songs were on.

I may not have gotten to see the actual movies yet, but I've been a Jurassic Park fan for the majority of my life. I grew up playing the lego Jurassic World video game, as well as getting the sets, and obsessing over the shows.

And that brings up another part of it. There's something deeply unfair about loving something so much, and not getting the chance to fully experience the original before the people who played such an important part in it are gone. When you would've been able to if you just had the opportunity before it was too late.

I got to see maybe half of Jurassic Park through a pair of goggles from the inside of an MRI machine two years ago when i was fifteen.
I still remember i was trembling with anxiety about it. I was inside a cold, loud monster of a machine where i was told i couldn't move, with an IV in my arm, watching the movie i had been told for years was too scary. Finally getting to see it. And what I got to see was amazing.

I never thought he'd be gone before I got to finish his story.

My entire childhood i looked up to Alan Grant. I wanted to be a paleontologist and discover dinosaurs. I got a replica Utahraptor claw for my 11th or 12th birthday because I wanted to be just like him. 🦖

I would put on a jean jacket, bandana and cowboy hat, set up a stuffed brachiosaurus and say "it's a... it's a dinosaur."

How much I wanted to train raptors like Owen Grady is beyond comprehension.

I've actually been crying my eyes out writing these last few paragraphs in the middle of the night. T^T

I don't want him to be gone. Not yet.

We still had adventures to have.

I still have the raptor claw. I just wanna say goodbye.

I'll always love you, Dinosaur Man. <3 🦕🦖
