Ohhhh, this one is going to hurt—burn, scar… like the loss of a limb. My namesake. My broken heart.To say simply that my Nonna was superhuman—one of a kind, beautiful, smart, generous—but most of all, strong, is still not enough. She taught me what it means to be a ZORAIDE.She lived through World War II, was kicked out of her home by the Nazis, and moved to a foreign country to start anew—as a widow with a small child. Nonna knew how to carry the baggage of life as if it were just little tea bags.All the most beautiful memories in my life contain a snapshot of her contagious smile.Memories, memories, memories.No one loved her family more than my Nonna—protecting us as if she were a sphinx. If anyone dared show even a hint of harm toward her family, Nonna, with one sentence, would—without fail—put them in their place. She was quite talented at that. Just ask any ex-boyfriend I introduced her to.Her vibe was unshakable. The opinions of others never phased her. They don’t—and won’t—make another human like her. And through my dreams, I can still feel her around me.No—sorry—actually, she’s a part of me, always.To my fellow Zoraide, “I love you” just doesn’t do the trick. It doesn’t even begin to express what I feel inside when I think about you.So I’m thankful you’re in a place now where I know you can feel what I’m feeling—no words needed. 💔 by @itszeezee_
