~ one year of us ~

love is a culmination of many ordinary moments. it’s the weekly food shops, late night tv binges, laughing about the same silly joke for the 100th time, the misunderstandings and the coming back together, choosing to love freely, exercising patience and pushing each other to be better.

today marks one year since we said yes to spending every ordinary moment together and i’m so thankful - for your joy and unwavering kindness and the way you make life so much more lighthearted while being both grounded and grounding - you are so many answered prayers in human form and i love doing life with you and so committed to laughing with and annoying you forever ❤️ by @itunu_speaks

And we also talk about ambition, identity, and becoming a wife without shrinking yourself.

Marriage is beautiful. But it shouldn’t cost you your voice or your peace.

~ why are teenage girls being called women? ~

i tried to watch the epstein netflix documentary a few years ago. the stories of his calculated abuse were so horrific i didn’t make it past the first episode. as information resurfaced and shocked the world, i tried watching it again. it felt wrong to ignore such evil being enacted by the rich, powerful and predatory.

as the testimonies of survivors were shared, some questioned why those who were teenage girls at the time of the abuse were being called women. deciding not to present them as young, naïve, and in need of protection felt deliberate. it absolved those that preyed on them of responsibility.

language means everything. adultifying girls who have been mistreated is a surefire way to continue cycles of abuse. all girls need protection, there is no perfect victim and there is no story that does not deserve to be heard and no child who doesn’t deserve justice.

~ have you ever asked your mum if she’s happy ~

i’ve been having a lot of conversations with my female friends about mothers recently. the ways they interact with their families, the burdens they carry, the stories that make them who they are and how for many women it’s in humanizing their mothers that they learn to appreciate and/or accept them for who they are.

i’m not sure i’ve seen the same level of reflectiveness with men (generally speaking). where daughters grow to see their mothers as three dimensional, sons don’t. so it made me wonder, maybe being unburdened about the humanity of your mother is the true essence of being a child.

i’m not sure.

i hosted a chat show inspired gathering for my birthday where i got some girlfriends together to share their spiciest hot takes. we listened, laughed and left with different perspectives and i loved it! curating spaces for connection and good conversation is a core part of who i am and it was amazing to let that manifest in my birthday celebration (no matter how unconventional it might be!) cheers to growth and embracing doing things your way 🥂🩷 by @itunu_speaks
