Enjoyed working on a piece with color drastically different than what i'm used to. Purple is one of those colors i find a bit intimidating to work with, but she lent herself to this project beautifully -- still it is far from the bright yellows, oranges, pinks, and blues that im more comfortable with 🥹🌸✨☀️

i really want to invest in some frames and new paint soon .. but we have to move bc my apartment building got sold and all of the tenants are being forced to vacate by January 1st ... so no reckless spending until i can find a new home / space 😔. It's really frustrating trying to make a living on the island u were born n raised on, and actively being priced out of housing , with little to no support from the systems in place meant to protect us. All can do is vote come November... i really don't want to leave my home.

So i had an interesting conversation recently. If you can't step outside of ur own sphere of understanding , how could u ever truly engage with a new idea, theme or concept. To me, lack of empathy goes farther than not being kind to someone or not understanding situations you yourself is not in. Lack of empathy builds walls that isolates the self and keeps one stagnant in one way or another. Just...unmoving. Its why one must push past their own limiting beliefs sometimes, and be unafraid of judgement.

But also i get it, bc lack of empathy feels safe. Not questioning the systems around you, choosing to believe in something just because you were told to, and avoiding delving into topics that might shatter your realm of understanding , comforts the soul that doesn't seek growth. Or was taught against it.

I dunno, just been thinking of that lately.

Also omg the ability to carry out this painting is escaping me but , we move ✌🏾

always ecstatic whenever a friend / family member gifts me art supplies. Especially if it's something i've never used before. We got this watercolor sketchbook , and these water color pencils and markers a while ago but we're only just beginning to experiment with them.

The brushes are ones that i used to use for acrylics , but they're a little messed up -- but not enough to throw them away. I hate throwing stuff like this away in this economy 😭 we're gonna get every use outta her.

Had to test them by drawing my favorite kind of subject , a caribbean girly with locs 😩 🌸💋🇻🇮

(She's exasperated bc AI users who generate "art" refuse to label it properly for fear of people not wanting to engage because it's AI. They're overly missing the point even tho it's right in front of their faces. Go ahead and slap that AI label on loves, so ur people can find u and stay away from over here 🫶🏾🇻🇮👑☀️)

August 2026 has not been kind to me.

My body and mind is recovering from everything that happened ... but we're trying to come back to ourself. it's a slow process. getting out of bed, making food for myself, and everyday things have become incredibly difficult (more so than usual) especially with everything happening in the world, externally and internally. the air feels so heavy. everything feels dark and hopeless, but that's where radical hope shines through.

Not everything is love and light - and that's where the art comes in

A quick self portrait I did before going to the beach one morning 🏝️ ☀️ 🌊 Capturing a likeness is quite difficult to do, and I'm thinking I want to do alot more portraits to improve it. I've been watching alot of oil painters , and artists in general and have been inspired by their ability to truely capture a likeness. The ability to translate someone / something so accurately into any medium is incredibly precious. It's almost like encasing that moment or person in time forever, immortalizing them....

A Certain Seeded Craving 🌱🍊

dewicious 🤤💞!! Finished this painting faster than i thought. Art really flows out so seamlessly when you are with company but don't feel the heaviness of their presence.

Love love loooveee a good papaya and papaya seed moment 😩

Is it true that swallowing the seeds whole helps get rid of gut parasites? i saw it in a video once and have kinda been obsessed with it since deworming isn't really a thing(?) in the u.s.

"Sunset Girl" Update 💕⭐️🌺

This piece, from the very beginning was like the familiar uncomfortable wade in the water on a nice warm beach day. It was uncomfortable, getting to know how paints react with what brushes, experimenting with mixing colors with my limited color selection, and putting marks on the canvas to express the ideas in my head.  While working on her I felt a weightlessness that comes with wading into the water, even if the temperature can be cold initially. It's a welcome weightlessness, one that makes it harder to breathe, but where you can feel your entire body relaxing in a way that it just doesn't fully on land.   Painting is such a different, but exciting and refreshing experience, coming from over 5 years as a primarily digital artist. How colors and shapes take a life on their own and take the initiative to become "alive" as well has been an experience that's a bit difficult for me to explain.

It's a challenge BUT it's a very welcome one. Right now I'm bouncing between multiple projects and pieces, but I WILL be working on finishing them before starting ANY! MORE! (lol zzz)

This definitely isn't the LAST session where i'll be working on her, but she looks much much closer to what i envision her final form being 🥹🫶🏾💕
