We don’t do this with contemporaries like Botticelli. It comes down to Renaissance prestige; top-tier artists Latinized their names for the humanist courts, turning Tiziano into Titianus. As his popularity exploded across Northern Europe, foreign patrons adopted the Latin version. While Spanish preserved the original Italian phonetics, French phonology stripped away the suffix to create Titien—which English later shortened to Titian.
