▪️12•17•25 JT Torres Blackbelt 🥋

▪️Back then, I didn’t know where this road would take me. I just knew I needed something real—something that demanded honesty from me, even on the days I didn’t want to be honest with myself. And Jiu Jitsu gave me that. It didn’t care about my excuses. It didn’t care about my mood. It didn’t care what I said I wanted. It only responded to what I was willing to do.

And year after year, it tested me.

It tested my discipline when motivation disappeared.
It tested my patience when progress felt invisible.
It tested my pride when I got humbled—again and again.
It tested my character when nobody was watching and quitting would’ve been easy.

Because the truth is… a black belt isn’t a rank you receive. It’s a person you become.

It’s built in the early mornings and the late nights.
In the injuries you train around.
In the losses that teach you more than the wins.
In the seasons where life is heavy and you still show up anyway.
In the days you feel behind, and you keep going.
In the moments you’re tired, and you choose effort over comfort.

That’s what this belt represents for me.

Not perfection.
Not talent.
Not some highlight reel.

It represents years of choosing the hard way—on purpose.

Today, I’m not celebrating a color around my waist as much as I’m honoring the version of me that refused to disappear. The kid who started in 2008 with nothing but heart. The person who kept coming back after setbacks. The teammate who stayed loyal to the room. The student who respected the process even when the process didn’t feel rewarding.

And to everyone who helped shape me—family, friends, teammates—thank you. You didn’t just support a goal, you supported a grind. You supported the days I doubted myself. You supported the obsession, the sacrifice, the time. You were part of every rep that nobody saw.

And to my professor @jtorresbjj —thank you for the standard. Thank you for the pressure. Thank you for the guidance, the belief, and the responsibility of representing something bigger than myself. Thank you for not letting me settle for “good enough.” Thank you for helping me become the kind of person who could carry this. by @ivaneperezlabastida

God’s gift to you is who you are; my gift to God is who I become.” 🚀

An appreciation post for the first coaches who believed in me before I knew how much I was capable of. You saw something in me, challenged me to grow, and helped me find the confidence to believe in myself.

The lessons you taught me went far beyond the mats. You helped shape the way I train, the way I coach, and the person I’m still working to become. I’ll always carry the advice, the memories, the laughs, and the moments that helped set me on this path.

Thank you for investing your time and energy in me and for being part of the beginning of my journey. I’m forever grateful for everything you taught me and for the example you set. A piece of who I am today comes from what you gave me.

Much love and respect, always. 🖤 #thehabupit #acmfs by @ivaneperezlabastida
