The last few years have been a journey. My faith has changed. In some ways it’s become simpler, yet somehow harder to hold. It has found its way into these songs.

I have had a deep hunger for authenticity and simplicity in my faith - tired in some way of the ‘purpose driven life’ - worlds where everything seems to continuously get bigger and better.

The people who have inspired me most are those who have committed themselves to presence - to simply being - and to generously offering that presence to whoever is in front of them. Something reignites my faith when I see that.

I’ve grown tired of wanting, of owning, of controlling. And somewhere along the way, I began to find joy in what was already here -  in the relationships I have, in the gifts I’ve been given, in the world right in front of me.
Wonder is slowly returning. Peace has started to lead me.

I feel a kind of holiness in the present - seeing God in it, in me, in my neighbor, even in ‘my enemy’. Christ is in all. Christ is all. He is here. He is with us. Nothing can separate us.

These songs were written in the middle of this transition. They’re simple - more like mantras than statements. But they’ve changed me.

A big thank you to @willreagan for helping bring them to life. I started recording them in Alaska, and he worked some magic on them. Grateful for the friendship and music.

Such a sweet time in Alaska this last month. It feels like home every time I go. There is something that resonates in me when I am there - in the simplicity and beauty. Still reflecting with gratitude on the tour last week with @youngoceans and @luke_buck_skaggs. When Eric and I planned the Songs and Silence shows, we had little expectation of what the nights would look like. The power of silence has been pivotal in our own faith, but incorporating that into and around our music was unfamiliar in a live setting.
Each night, Eric would set expectations for what the moments of silence would look like - the awkwardness of nothing between songs. Every night, there was a nervous, anxious tension we all felt at first. And every night, at different moments, the silence would shift from anxiety to deep peace - as we entered into it together.
In that place of peace, no distraction was noticed. We were brought fully into the present (Presence). Music was no longer necessary. Perhaps what moved me most was how that peace carried into the following day, as we wandered through new cities, met new people, and decided where to eat and sleep… there was a graciousness in it all. Peace would determine our decisions in the most child-like way.
Grateful to have shared this with Eric and Luke.
