A collection of photos captured around the Frogner area in Oslo while attending several photowalks over the past month.

There are so many interesting subjects and compositions in this part of the city that I'll probably end up making another post from this area. These are some of my favorite photos from the walks, posted in no particular order.

All of these photos were captured quite spontaneously, which resulted in a mix of architecture, abstract, portraits and even some closeups of flowers. I'm looking forward to spending more time exploring Oslo and Norway this summer, can't wait to see what summer brings.

Photos from the airshow ar Kjeller Airport.

This was a great opportunity to see and photograph a number of historic aircraft, including the iconic Spitfire, P51-Mustang and Norway first generation of fighter jets, which entered service around 1948.

Most of these photos were captured using a 150-600mm lens on an APS-C camera, giving a field of view equivalent to 900mm at the long end. With that much magnification, however, atmospheric distortion becomes pretty noticeable, so most of these photos were taken at around 300-400mm.

The weather was also a bit challenging, with mostly overcast sky. I generally prefer to photograph aircraft against a clearer sky, nevertheless I'm still really happy with how these turned out.

Some photos from last summer that somehow never made it onto my page.

The first image was captured using a long exposure to smooth out the water and to give the clouds a softer appearance. The remaining photos were taken in the surrounding area during the same trip.

Most of these photos were captured quite spontaneously, but I'll actually be returning to this area in just a few weeks, so this time I have a lot more locations and compositions planned. Hopefully this time I can get some even better photos!

Not every portrait needs soft lighting to work.

Most photographers tend to avoid the harsh midday sunlight, but sometimes those conditions can help you create photos with a lot more character and mood when used intentionally.

In this case the harsh light helped to emphasize the textures and colors of the urban environment while also acting as a natural "spotlight", highlighting the model against the background.

In this post I've included various ways I tried to tackle this situation throughout the shoot. While working only in the shadows might give the model a more flattering look, in the end, I found that leaning into the contrasts and harsher tones led to a lot more interesting photos.

Many thanks to @leonardoliife for doing a great job on this shoot and giving it his all. Portraits are always a collaborative effort.

A perfect combination of geometry, light, shadows and a hint of color.

Lately, I've been interested in photographing in more urban settings. I've never really found concrete structures to be beautiful, but they make for some really cool photo locations.

I captured this photo with a 16mm lens to emphasis the death of the tunnel.
This was one of those moments where the light does most of the work and I just have to be there at the right moment.

Cherry blossoms in Oslo - part 2.

Throughout April and May I became slightly addicted to photographing cherry blossom trees and flowers.
I ended up with photos from all around the city and this is basically a summary of my favorite photos from this season.

I already posted some of these photos in an earlier post, but I'm including some of them here at the end to give a more complete summary.

I captured this set of photos during a photowalk last week with Oslo Camera Club.

We walked around the Bjørvika - Sørenga area so I decided to focus mostly on modern architecture, light and shadows.
The Munch museum and some kayakers created a pretty cool and abstract composition.
The lightning that day was also really fun to work with as you can see in photo nr2.

Cherry blossoms in Oslo - part 1.

Throughout April and May I became slightly addicted to hunting for cherry blossom trees and honestly just flowers in general, reflected in some of my most recent posts.

I ended up capturing photos all around Oslo, and I eventually had so many images that I've decided to split them up into 2 posts.

Out of all of these, I think the 2nd photo with the Super Hercules is my favorite. It's not often we get to see an aircraft like that here. I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time when it did a low pass over the city on April 25th.

I captured these photos on a recent photowalk with scandinavianphoto in Oslo.

These circular patterns and lines at the judicial faculty look so cool, and the photo became even more satisfying once they were aligned properly with the pillars in the foreground.

However, @talesofsindi 's modeling was what really made this photo(s) turn out interesting enough for me to want to share it.

Aviation meets cherry blossoms.

Lately, my favorite thing about aviation photos has been finding interesting ways to combine the planes with other objects, either in the foreground or background. Mostly because I find the normal plane-spotting photos kind of boring.

Some of my favorite combinations so far has been planes transiting the Moon or the Sun and that photo with the fire truck in the foreground. This spring I got really into cherry blossoms photos and I wanted to try to combine that with aviation as well.

I'm pretty happy with the photos, I just wish the lighting was a bit more dramatic, but the concept turned out successful. I'm definitely going to give this another go next year.

Thanks to @mar.earth for doing a great job modeling for us and to @yukhogoingplaces for setting up this photoshoot.

The botanical garden in Oslo was an amazing location even though the direct sunlight made the lighting pretty difficult to work with. However, we managed to solve that by mostly taking photos in the shadows and using a reflector panel.

I think the photos speak for themselves.
