MOVEMENTscape rehearsals with mia’s cast!

This piece takes behavioral inspiration from cartoon villains. The dancers get to practice character work and acting within the technical movement, creating a fun world for the audience. Come see the finished work in our show!

Getting our contemporary feels out in Waeli’s Master Class last week 😌

She led various warmups with spine articulations, battement combos, and jumps across the floor. The class ended with learning choreography to this song, giving lots of time to dance it out with each other. We’re so grateful to Waeli for her welcoming and encouraging presence in the studio 💙

Our Master Class Series will return this spring! Until then, stay tuned for behind the scenes of our rehearsals as our dancers and choreographers prepare for MOVEMENTscape, this November.

It’s National Dance Day!! Thank you to everyone who came to Waeli’s Master Class yesterday! The community of dancers and class spirit in the room were overwhelming and beautiful to experience. We are so grateful that these classes can bring together dancers from different schools as well as our own students and alumni.

Learn more from Waeli in her FREE Contemporary Modern class this Friday 9/18 at 2pm!

Fusing contemporary and classical modern, with elements of breath work, grounding, and balance, this class is for all dancers!

Waeli is joining us from our sister school, Saddleback College, where she teaches their weekly Modern Dance class. This semester she is also our guest artist, setting a piece for our show, MOVEMENTscape! If you enjoy her choreography here, check it out in the round studio theatre in November!

“Friendship (part one) and The Universe (part two)

This special, two part piece was created by our guest artist, Smriti Krishnan, who not only choreographed, but perfected the costumes with her own jewelry and narrated the story for The Universe.

About her piece:
Friendship (part one) was choreographed using elements of Bharatanatyam, modern dance, and ballet. The Universe (part two) showcases an adaptation of the story of Krishna, a well-known god in the Hindu canon of mythology, believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
