One week ago my work was part of a wonderfully curated show called POP by @vradujkov and @neon_foundation.

It was a great experience to see my work in this space alongside other Rotterdam based artist. Thank you for inviting me @vradujkov 🙏 taken in De Achtertuin by @iwan_pol

About three years ago, I started making Lunchboxes, the predecessors of my Colourboxes. After spending several years focusing mainly on the production of products, it was a way for me to rediscover the joy of making, experimenting, and working with colour.

Little did I know that this would mark the beginning of a much more autonomous direction within my studio.

Now, more than 150 unique Colourboxes later, I realise that I’m actually just getting started. What began as a way to create more freely has grown into a much broader exploration of the relationship between form, material, colour and composition, and how we perceive and experience these elements as human beings.

Here’s a small selection of the works I’ve created over the past three years.

The first 24 lunchboxes I made back in the summer of ‘23.

Two works better ✌️

Experimenting with various surface finishes.

First series I made with a hard foam base giving the shapes more roundness and volume.

First large work I made. Really like it because it’s an intriguing image even though it has little amount of elements and colours.

Lunchboxes in progress in ‘24.

Getting fancy with it💅

Mixing materials.

While cleaning up my computer, I came across this video of a custom Tumbler I made for a client four years ago.

I haven’t made any Tumblers since, but seeing this piece again reminds me how much there is still to discover within the concept of an ever-changing artwork. The simple act of rotating the frame continuously creates new relationships between shapes and colours, revealing compositions that were never intentionally designed, yet somehow feel inevitable. by @iwan_pol
