The Olympic flame that will inspire young athletes from all over the world at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, was today lit in Athens, at the historic Panathenaic Stadium, the venue of the first Games of the modern era, in 1896. 🔥

After this very symbolic ceremony, the flame will now travel to Senegal, where it will arrive in Dakar this Saturday. 🇸🇳

The IOC President Kirsty Coventry was in the Hellenic capital and highlighted the importance of the moment:

“In just a few weeks, Senegal will welcome young athletes from around the world for the first Olympic competition ever to be held on African soil. That is a proud moment for Senegal. And it is a proud moment for Africa. And it is going to open an important new chapter for the Olympic Movement.”

Dakar 2026 will take place from October 31 to November 13 and Weightlifting is proudly part of the Engagement Programme of the event.🏋️‍♂️🏋️‍♀️💪🏻

110 KG. TWO BIG NAMES. ONE OPEN PODIUM. 🏋️

My current picks for the 2026 Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games:

🥇 Akbar Djuraev
🥈 Liu Huanhua
🥉 Chen Po Jen

Djuraev gets the slight edge with a 428 kg total at the 2025 Worlds and impressive training numbers, including a 200 kg snatch and 270 kg front squat double.

Liu remains a serious gold contender. His 420 kg at the 2026 Asian Championships provides the baseline—the bigger question is how much more he can turn into valid lifts.

Chen deserves your attention. Public posts list 235 kg and 237 kg clean & jerks. Additional training reports include a 290 kg front squat double, plus sessions involving 190 kg snatches and 230 kg clean & jerks across five sets.

If that form comes together on competition day, he could challenge the top two.

And don’t overlook Alireza Nasiri. A secure snatch could put his powerful clean & jerk right in the medal fight.

Swipe through the six-slide breakdown 👉
Who’s your pick for gold—and what total wins it?

Personal forecast as of 7 September 2026, assuming normal participation. Training performances come from different sessions and are not a competition total. Chen’s additional training reports include privately supplied information that has not been independently verified. Historical imagery is used for illustration.

95 KG. ONE PODIUM. PLENTY OF UNFINISHED BUSINESS. 🏋️

Who makes the podium at the 2026 Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games?

My current picks:
🥇 Ali Alipour
🥈 Jokser Quinto
🥉 Won Jongbeom
🇨🇳 Tu Yi close behind.

Alipour’s reported 410 kg domestic-league total makes him my favorite. Quinto brings a proven 390 kg World Championships performance, with all six attempts successful.

Won’s self-reported 400 kg training total adds intrigue, while Tu Yi’s consistency keeps him firmly in the medal conversation.

The biggest wildcards? Nurgissa Adiletuly and Meso Hassona. If their recovery and current form come together, they could reshape the entire podium.

Swipe through the eight-slide breakdown 👉
Who’s on your podium—and what total will it take to win?

Personal forecast as of 6 September 2026, assuming normal participation. Training performances and domestic results are identified separately from international competition results. Historical athlete images are used for illustration.

Something new was lifted in Lausanne this Saturday - and it was more than just weights.✨

The first-ever IWF 2x2 Mixed Team Event brought together athletes from four different nations and a Refugee Team in an exciting new competition format designed to combine athletic performance, strategy, speed and teamwork.🏋️‍♂️🏋️‍♀️

The 2x2 Mixed Team Event is not intended to replace the traditional forms of weightlifting. Instead, it offers another way to experience the sport - one that places teamwork, strategy and mixed-gender participation at its centre.💪🏻👍🏻

It was an experiment in the future of weightlifting. Lausanne 2026 may well be remembered as the place where a new chapter of weightlifting began.👏🏻🙏🏻
