POSTS STORIES REELS

Eager to see the Krasner & Pollock show at The Met. In the meantime, this play about Franz Kline, which covers the same post-war art scene in NY, filled the gap. by @iynacaruso

Goodbye to boring Do Not Disturb door hangers. Nice to see the folks at my last few hotels have a sense of humor. by @iynacaruso

The best part of travel is discovering.

I never heard of Eel Pie Island in London, much less that it was the breeding ground for 1960s rock, blues and jazz until I visited the wonderfully quirky Eel Pie Island Museum. The likes of the Stones, Eric Clapton, David Bowie, Black Sabbath and The Kinks all played there before they were famous. Lucky British teenagers who got to hear these bands now serve as docents who can’t wait to share their stories. Highly recommend.

(And, yes, eel pie was a pub dish back then) by @iynacaruso

I’m proud to announce the launch of my latest storytelling project, Transcendent: The Life and Work of Artist Takuichi Fujii, a digital tour exploring the remarkable journey of Takuichi Fujii, a prolific painter who used art as a powerful force of expression and survival during one of the darkest chapters in American history — the unjust incarceration of more than 120,000 Japanese Americans during World War II.

Transcendent features never-before-seen artwork and materials from the personal collection of Fujii’s grandson, art historian Sandy Kita, and is presented as part of the broader initiative that explores the history, experiences, and legacy of Japanese Americans before, during, and after World War II.

I worked with two amazing teams: Friends of Minidoka in Idaho, partner for the Minidoka National Historic Site, and Que Productions in Florida.

“At its heart, this beautiful digital tour is about the power of art to affirm humanity. Fujii’s work reminds us that creativity can be an act of resistance, but also an act of preservation, compassion, and hope.”

A musical about the Brooklyn Bridge? Yes, please. “Brooklyn’s Bridge” is the story of Emily Roebling who took over the project when her husband became ill. The producers came up with such a fun idea. They offered a free walking tour of the bridge after the show. by @iynacaruso

Yes We Can.

It’s one thing to go to the premiere of a show. It’s another thing to go to the premiere of the theater itself. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the opening of the new Strongbox Theater in East Rockaway. It’s beautiful—and was worth the wait. by @iynacaruso

So glad I got to see this fabulous musical in its final weekend. by @iynacaruso

We went a little Culper crazy. Our team is thick in the middle of the Second Annual Long Island History Hunt, a project sponsored by the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation. This year, we have 26 participating museums and historic sites from Orient and Montauk to Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn that are connected to the American Revolution. Folks register, visit a site and take a selfie challenge to be eligible for prizes. Yesterday, we took a road trip to four of our sites tied to George Washington’s Culper Spy Ring. by @iynacaruso

First the movie, now the musical. by @iynacaruso

Finally got in my first boardwalk bike ride of the season. by @iynacaruso

Home from an exhilarating week at the Valdez Theatre Conference in Alaska where two of my works were presented, one at Valdez Fringe and another in a developmental play reading. Grateful for the positive feedback, the camaraderie and the bear sighting at a safe distance. by @iynacaruso
