👏🏽¡Enhorabuena y mucho éxito! by @iyokoensemble

The ensemble consists of five musicians who met during their bachelor’s degree studies at Musikene in San Sebastián. Under the direction of Vicent Boix Sanz, the quintet quickly recognised its potential and the importance of pursuing a shared artistic path.
In 2019, Iyoko performed at the Musika-Música Festival in Barakaldo and at Bilbao’s “Semana Grande”, giving a concert at La Encarnación Church. That same year, they participated in the inauguration of the Chillida Leku Museum in Hernani and in the “Musikeler” Festival in San Sebastián.
In 2020, they won the Musikene soloist competition for orchestral ensembles, which gave them the opportunity to perform as soloists with the centre’s wind orchestra in October 2021.
To further their training, they took part in the Galaico Brass Festival in 2021 and 2022, where they worked with renowned musicians such as Leonhard Paul (Mnozil Brass), Miguel García Casas (Frankfurt Opera) and Miroslav Petkov (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra).
In 2022 and 2023, they were artists in residence at the Ticino Musica Festival, performing numerous concerts in Lugano and the surrounding area. They shared the stage with artists including Vincent Lepape and Frits Damrow, and premiered two new commissioned works for double quintet with the wind quintet “Fedro”.
These experiences have strengthened their shared musical vision and deepened their commitment to exploring the possibilities of this repertoire. The quintet is currently studying chamber music at the Robert Schumann University of Music in Düsseldorf with Professor Mark Hampson. by @iyokoensemble

After two years of inactivity, we figured the joke had run its course and that it was time to come back together again. But since just doing concerts wasn’t enough for us, we decided to go back to studying (no joke).

We've spent this past week in Münster, where our dear Óscar is based, rehearsing and preparing for the Master's audition we've had this past Tuesday. After our first micro-concert in Germany and having taken the entrance exam, we can now announce:

IYOKO will be studying a master’s degree in chamber music at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf, starting next academic year with professor Mark Hampson. by @iyokoensemble
