What a beautiful SENSORY FRIENDLY DAY I had at the @alliancetheatre -where we got to reach so many families and community members!

Pics 1-4: over the last couple of weeks I have been working on a sensory friendly read aloud for ages 2-8- each child got their own sensory bag with shakers, flashlights, crunchy paper and ribbons, and some water spritz’s to go along with the reading. They also each got their own “puppet” (studies show that children with sensory needs do better with a puppet or some other extended object to participate in activities instead of feeling the pressure of themselves having to participate.) Sensory read aloud’s often need more sensory input than your standard read aloud within a smaller amount of time for attention. The goal is to stimulate as many senses while also being mindful of everyone’s abilities to use these senses. I cannot wait to do more in the future and build off of what was created today!

Picture 5: I got to hop in and lead a FREE TO THE COMMUNITY theatre workshop for grades K- 3, introducing the concepts of storytelling, working together and creating characters to young students who may not otherwise have the opportunities to explore these themes in their schools.

Picture 6: I attended the SENSORY FRIENDLY performance of “Into the Burrow- A Peter Rabbit Tale” at the Alliance: featuring half on house lights, adjusted mics and overall sound onstage, and a BUILT IN sensory room attached to the stage for families to take breaks from the show without missing anything. There was so much joy in that room from both the children with disabilities and their caregivers because there were supports in place for them to thrive and enjoy the show freely.

✨Feeling an immense amount of gratitude from today. Reflecting on what has brought me to this day, as well as how to better serve the community in the future.
 I really love my job❤️
