I’ve gone back and forth about sharing this.

With everything coming out surrounding the Cornell 7, I’ve watched so many women begin sharing their own stories. It made me think about how young I was when some of mine began, and how many experiences I spent years minimizing, excusing, or simply learning to live with.

Some of these things I’ve spoken about before. Some I haven’t.

I’m not sharing this for sympathy, and I’m not sharing it to identify or publicly expose anyone. I’m sharing it because I’m 32 now, raising an 8-year-old boy, and I understand more than ever that conversations about consent cannot begin when our sons become teenagers.

They have to begin when they are children.

We spend so much time teaching little girls how to protect themselves. How to say no. How to dress. How to hold their drinks. How to walk to their cars. How to recognize danger.

We need to put just as much energy into teaching little boys not to become the danger someone else has to learn to navigate.

My son is the same age I was when my story began.

I intend to teach him differently.

Summer in Martha’s Vineyard x Portland, Maine 🌊

some of my favorite places to be are sleepy little fishing villages and beach towns. the lighthouses, rolling fog, beaches, old houses, history, seafood, trying all the best food spots around, checking out the local shops. wandering around with nowhere important to be.
