i think one of my favorite things ever is seeing the same subject matter depicted by different people.

water-based painting students ended the semester with painting a floral still life. they had the same bouquet to look at. we looked a three different artists to get a feel for different ways to approach a project like this.

seeing these side by side makes me happy. these students killed it! i’ll miss this class! by @izzybeckstudio

after wrapping up with watercolor, water-based painting students switched to acrylic. we started with smaller floral studies to ease into the medium. we discussed the work of georgia o’keeffe beforehand, looking at how she played with scale and cropping to give the viewer a more immersive experience with a familiar subject matter. looooove how these turned out and how they all looked displayed together 🌼 by @izzybeckstudio

more artwork from this semester! water-based painting students chose a location they have a connection to in some capacity to create these landscapes. this was their last watercolor project. they did amazing mixing their own natural colors (they only had primaries and burnt sienna!), deciding on composition, and writing lovely artist statements :,) by @izzybeckstudio

florals? for spring? groundbreaking.

my water based painting class is ending the semester with a spring bouquet still life 💐 so i’ve been painting alongside them, and it’s been a lovely way to start the morning 💓 i’m also learning a lot with them, working with acrylic paint is a totally different experience than working with oil…

pulled my first proofs of this block today! 🖤 excited to make editions of this + play around with colors. it took me forever to carve a portrait for the first time, but i enjoyed the process and am plotting to make more 🖋️

water based painting students are killing it!!!!!

monochromatic still life studies were done to grow an understanding of value before entering into the color theory world. expanded palette still life studies marked the beginning of our color mixing journey this semester! they were provided warm and cool primary colors, burnt sienna…and that’s it! ✨✨✨

student work!!!

these landscapes are from earlier in the semester, but i never got around to posting them. these are from foundations of drawing students - mostly freshman.

they used ink (micron pens) for the first time to capture landscapes around campus. they had to choose a mark making technique and organize their drawings into either a diptych or a triptych.

they learned about atmospheric perspective but were also able to zoom in to focus on texture if they wanted to.

i think these turned out pretty cool! they looked awesome all up together on display, but i forgot to take a photo… by @izzybeckstudio
