i turned 40 a couple weeks ago, so i gifted myself a trip to ireland to share a few pints of guinness with the ghosts of my Ó hIfearnáin ancestors. they said hello and to call more often.

i ran my first race ever, and i didn’t hate it! thanks to @thewillmccoy for nudging me to sign up for this, running with me on his way to 15k, laughing with me midway through mile 2 when we were getting absolutely blasted with rain, and for being the perfect mix of silly and supportive on what could have been an absolute disaster of a day if we let it. of all the people to finish the race, you were one of them 🫶

“Body Count” video for my lovely pals @realhumansband. this one was a lot of fun.
AJ had a killer concept (grungy, frantic fever dream) and i got to collaborate with him and the rest of the humans to bring all our ideas to life.
AJ is an absolute legend for running all over nashville in the middle of a heat wave while wearing an all black suit.
austin had the steady hands and nimble feet to be a perfect driver/dolly for all of those tracking shots.
abby brought so many cool spooky ideas, and kept everyone looking their best in the styling department.
nate handcrafted the lightboxes and kept the lighting vibe immaculate.
and that’s just scratching the surface! all this to say, if any one of these people weren’t involved and invested, this video couldn’t have come to exist. and the same can be said for the song itself!
i don’t post much and i’m sure the algorithm gods will punish me for that, but if you see this, it would mean a lot if you give it a watch/listen. i’m really proud of these real humans.

i love @jessecale for a lot of reasons, not the least of which being that i can text him on a whim and be like “hey wanna help me finish off a test roll on a new* camera?” and he’ll have 3 outfits and a location ready within minutes. 🥲

this was extra special because until a couple days before we took these, jesse had long hair way past his shoulders that he’d be growing for years. there was a shedding and rediscovering of identity in that process, so the graveyard felt like a fitting environment. i’m honored to be a witness to his growth. the end is the beginning.

*aka, 30-year-old very used camera. happy to see that it works. mostly. focus is pretty hit or miss, but who cares. it’s art# or something.

exactly two years ago was the last show of, what i thought at the time, would be my last tour ever. i felt old, out of touch, burnt out.. i was operating at an emotional deficit for almost an entire year but i didn’t have the perspective or the words to articulate that. i just knew i was beyond spent, and i needed to be done. touring is a young person’s game, i told myself. i had my fun and it’s time to hang it up.

well here i am two years later, a very different version of myself thanks to time, space, and therapy (shoutout jamie one time), coming down from that distantly familiar post-tour high. late nights, early mornings, long drives.. and i still love being on the road with my friends, being surrounded by music and the energy it creates in people. and i’m not ready to be “done” just yet.

thanks to my man, @thisisphangs for bringing me along on our first tour since before covid changed the world, and helping me remember that music is a service industry. every person on every crew of every show you see is there for you. and i hope you have a great time.
