Last year had highlights and lowlights like any other, but each year that goes past I'm astounded by God's faithfulness and goodness to this undeserving prodigal son.

I'm just ridiculously grateful to be fully living and tasting the sweet taste of redemption every day.

3287 days in sobriety was never the goal.

The goal was 1 hour, then 1 day, then 2 days, then 3 days, then 4 days....

As a recovering addict, you CANNOT take your eyes off the prize, which for me is just getting through each day sober until your head hits the pillow. Then, if you're fortunate enough to wake up in the morning, first you celebrate the previous day, and then the mission restarts.

My first message from deep inside sobriety is to take 'one day at a time'. Maybe even 1 hour at a time in the early days.

If my goal had been 9 years, I would have felt overwhelmed, never truly believing the goal was achievable.

Confucius said, "The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones", and the same principle applies.

Recovery isn’t a sprint. It’s more like the Tour de France. You don’t win by thinking about the Parisian finish line on day one; you focus on completing today’s stage. Some days are flat, others feel like brutal mountain climbs, but every day you keep moving forward.

Just like a cyclist needs the right bike, the right equipment, a strong team, and encouragement from the crowds, recovery requires the right tools, honest support, practical adjustments, and people who refuse to let you ride alone.

You don’t stay sober by conquering the next 3287 days. You stay sober by getting through today.

NINE YEARS OF SOBRIETY!

There were years when I was heavily dependent on Class A drugs, and I couldn't imagine going just a few hours without a fix.

All I really want to say nine years in is that I'm grateful. Grateful I've got my life back. Grateful that my mum got her son back. Grateful my girls got their dad back. Grateful I'm a man of integrity. Grateful that my past is being used for good. Grateful I can enjoy life sober. Grateful I like who I see in the mirror.

As an addict in recovery, I think the most important thing is to stay humble because sobriety is a GIFT; it's not GUARANTEED.

When you receive a gift, the right response is gratitude.

Today I'm grateful to God for redeeming my life from the ashes of addiction.
