I don’t like marketing myself and gagged at least three times putting this About Me post together.

Anyways…

Hi! I’m J.M. Harri but you can call me Harri. I write things. Some things are good, some things I want to use as kindling.  I’ve loved stories as long as I can remember. If my nose wasn’t in a book, I was writing my own and creating fictional adventures for me and my siblings. I have a B.A. from George Mason University in English, with a concentration in Folklore and Mythology in Literature. One might assume an English Degree would predispose me to being a great writer. And one would be wrong. I can’t spell for the life of me and still look up grammar rules all the time.   What an English degree did teach me - besides identifying and explaining descent archetypes in “Stranger Things” and “Dungeon Crawler Carl” to my husband - was how to research and be brutal to my drafts. Writing is a skill, a craft, a state of being that requires constant work and a thing that has me so entranced in its clutches, I keep coming back to it over and over in hopes that I’ll eventually get it right.

I spent years dabbling but it wasn’t until my 40s (late bloomer, ya’ll) that I started taking writing a book seriously. I’m wrapping up my debut and hope to begin querying this year. Meanwhile, I’m working on other WiPs and my shorter form story telling and poetry. All publicly available work is on Patreon nd currently free to read.

I’ve also got a google website. woop woop.  I like reading. I like being outside and I’m a huge advocate for LNT (leave no trace), which means pick up your trash and stay on the path when you are in nature. Be a good human, simple as that.

Oh yeah, and I like coffee. A lot.

Quick little weekend trip with a stop in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. It rained the whole time & somehow made it more magical. While some places are still there after 8 years, there is plenty new. Bittersweet. The things that are now only a memory, the things that create new spaces and places for beautiful things.

Training the algorithm to dopamine dump so we never had to look up, go out, and find the raw imperfect things, stunning, memorable

My current debut novel draft still doesn’t have a title… I just call it ‘Bel’ because I name my babies until the name comes to me.

While she bears no name, she is all heart… and pirates and fairies and high-stakes adventures woven into a Tinker Bell & Hook YA Romantasy. And it all begins with an accidental meeting…. right place, right time, wrong person…

Just in full re-write mode these days, filling up plot holes as fast as I make them. Still working on "Bel" (working title). Still not sharing more details other than it is a YA Fantasy TinkerBell & Hook story...

But I can tell you themes, like this one. Some truths break you before they set you free.

Aaaand I can tell you my goal for this current draft is to be ‘reader ready’ by the end of June. Nothing like a fire under my arse to push me forward. Already, this novel has been a better experience than my first two novel attempts. Slowly she learns!
