I finished this project a while ago but have held off posting it because I was struggling connecting to this piece. I originally beaded this turtle to tell the story of my experience in education and the frustrations and barriers I have experienced along the way.

This year I have taken a role in education and my life has been consumed by both being a student and a teacher. My time has been spent behind my computer and everything that makes me a person has seemingly been placed to the side. I haven’t been tanning hides, beading, getting out on the land, fishing, etc. I found that I was frustrated with this project and I hadn’t quite captured what I was feeling.

Recently my dad asked if he could hang this turtle in his room. He instantly related to the turtle and connected to it in a way I was struggling to do. I realized that sometimes in my art I am not actually telling my story, I am telling someone else’s. by @j.obeading
