A self-taught visual artist, Jona lets us into her creative world and shares why supporting and creating space for fellow artists is such an important part of her practice. That spirit comes to life at Art Under the Stars on Saturday, August 22, Jona’s 4th annual celebration of visual art, music, and community. Want to experience it for yourself? Happy Heavenly Birthday Daddy!! 😘❤️☁️ Today would’ve been John H. Taylor’s 80th birthday!! 🥳🙌🏽 He was 56 when he passed, and I was 12 or 13. For me to have been so young, I have so many memories to hold on to…from cliff diving and beach days to drawing in the walls & collecting butterflies & all our motorcycle rides. 🥹🏍️ …and still, the main thing I remember about my Daddy is his Spirit. Gotta keep our loved ones names alive. He lives on through me. John & Jona ♾️ My Daddy lived his life to the fullest. He had big energy. He loved music. He loved the water & Bermuda.🇧🇲 He loved a cold Heineken & a cig. 🍻 He loved adventures and he would take me with him. I’d be on the back his motorcycle knocked out. He stood on business about his principles & what he believed. He said everything with his chest. He had his traumas and struggles, like we all do, but he always had a HUGE heart & did anything for the people he loved.❤️ My dedicated day of reflection. 🔝🐕 by @j.taylor

My mind and body was exhausted, but my heart is full. 🥹❤️ I’m so grateful for the turnout at @artunderthestars.philly IV. There was a lot happening in Philly on Saturday, and rain was in the forecast, but God blessed us with a beautiful night and an amazing turnout. 🙌🏽 The artists were incredible! Whether it was their first time with us or they were returning, every single one had an amazing setup, connected with wonderful people, felt community & enjoyed the night together…and that’s exactly what it’s all about. ✨🎨 I’m looking to build a team to help make the 5th year anniversary really special, so please reach out or send people my way. 🫶🏽 Much love & thank y’all for another amazing year. ❤️✨ taken in The Sculpture Courtyard by @j.taylor

@artunderthestars.philly will return on Saturday, August 22, from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Sculpture Courtyard, located at 1717 N. Hancock St. in Philadelphia. The annual event is centered on celebrating living artists and features original artwork, live painting, music and food. The event was founded by visual artist and event curator @j.taylor (Jona Shreeves-Taylor ) , who created the show around the idea that artists should be recognized while they are alive rather than posthumously, a theme reflected in the floral arrangements that decorate the venue each year. Tickets are available on Eventbrite. Guests can browse and purchase original artwork and merchandise from more than 20 visual artists, along with watching live painting throughout the evening. Music will be curated by Brotha Taaj and DJ YNGFU, with accompaniment from a live jazz band. Vending artists include @j.taylor, @heythatsebby, @alivenfree_, @creativeflavor, @edboyinthecut, @gtiberinostudios, @kaldricdesigndow, @mybydesign, @mr_konceptz, the4th_statekage, @theturquoisecup, and @welcometoloveville. Live painters include @dan_fetters, @ockthewizard, @intellectualdegenerate, and @msshanicesade. Food offerings will include soul food from Mr. D’s Homestyle Cooking and sweets from Cloud Cups Gelato. A cash bar will serve cocktails and other drinks until 10 p.m. taken in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by @j.taylor
