Thankful for every opportunity to give back to the SpelHouse community that gave so much to me. Now, more than ever, it’s important to both highlight and pour into the beauty and brilliance that exists on HBCU campuses. Shoutout to all of the Morehouse, Spelman, and Clark Atlanta students who came through with such thoughtful questions and ideas. Shoutout to our coaches, staff, and players for sticking around after practice and being so willing to connect with the students. And special shoutout to my friend, Morehouse brother, and assistant GM @mforney21 for all of the work he put into helping make today possible.

I’ll never forget the day I realized that I needed to make a change. I was in my fourth year as an attorney at Paul, Weiss. All of the external markers of “success” were there, but I had never felt so void. Deep down, I knew that I was further than I had ever been from my purpose and passion - the game of basketball. That same day, Nipsey Hussle’s song “Respect Ya Passion” came up on shuffle. In it, he says:

“make a master plan, watch it backfire / burn it all down and collect the ashes / build it back / respect your passion”

I knew it was time for me to “burn down” my career as a corporate lawyer, collect the ashes, and build my career in basketball. It was time for me to respect my passion.

The last 5 years have been filled with high highs, low lows, and sacrifice after sacrifice, but I am so thankful for all parts of the journey that lead me to where I am today.

I rarely post to the grid or give y’all these long captions, but I hope this message encourages someone who feels stuck and is questioning whether or not to follow their heart. Don’t let fear or doubt hold you back from chasing your dream. I’m living proof that you might just catch it.

My phone broke an hour before we left for our anniversary vacation, which served as a welcome reminder of the importance of finding time to disconnect from everything and everybody but Kayla. On June 9, 2021, exactly three years from the day we first met, I married my best friend in front of our parents, siblings, and grandmothers. Although it wasn’t the ceremony we originally planned, it was more beautiful than anything we imagined. A whole month has passed and I’m still on an indescribable high.

I feel so blessed and so very thankful to spend my life with you, Kayla. You are my everything — pulled from my prayers and my wildest dreams. Thank you for being you, and thank you for loving me. One month down, forever to go 💙 #WallIsLife

On June 9, 2018, I met this beautiful woman from LA at my annual summer house party. Sparks didn’t fly, and we didn’t have any romantic conversations that carried into the night, but deep down I knew that she was the one.
Fast forward two years from that day, and on June 9, 2020, I took that beautiful woman from LA back to the balcony where we first met (for what she thought was a photoshoot for our friend’s company 😂) and asked her to marry me. I’m so blessed, so thankful, and so very excited to begin this journey into forever with my best friend. They say that once you find somebody who’ll do absolutely anything to see you smile, everything else falls into place. I found my someone, and everything has never felt more in place.
