The answers to tomorrow’s challenges are already taking shape in today’s youth.

This year’s Next-Gen Award recipient, @j4yshun, is empowering the next generation of Black leaders through the Black Youth Empowerment Network (@wearebyen). What began as a vision in high school has grown into a national, youth-led movement connecting Black young people with the tools, relationships, and opportunities to lead.

Jay’Shun, thank you for seeing a need, answering the call, and building the future you knew Black youth deserved. 🫱🏽‍🫲🏾

Ecclesiastes 9:10

Two years ago, I took a leap on an idea that is bigger than me. What started as a vision to connect young Black leaders has grown into a movement making real connections and changes in our communities. Those who came before us led movements that opened doors and shifted history. We honor that legacy, and in our own way, we’re building one too.

Nonprofits don’t always make it, so every milestone feels deeply personal. This journey has stretched my faith, leadership, and patience, and I’m grateful for how far we’ve come and how much further we’re going.

Shoutout to the people featured in the video:
Miles Darby (@milesdrby), President of our Morehouse Chapter
Joshua Byrd, Board Member
Jordan Lawrence (@jusst.jewels_), BYEN Member
Maya Evans (@mayaevanns), Director of Communications
Isaac Banks-Smith (@smitty_wrldwide), Director of Finance & Development

Thank you to everyone who’s been part of BYEN, whether you showed up as a member, poured into us as a mentor, or supported from the sidelines. Every role mattered more than you know. Big love to Alex Chambers (@imweak.alex), our Creative Director, for bringing this vision to life with so much care, and to Stevie (@steviejackk), Founder of Akshn Media (@akshnmedia), for your patience, dedication, and high standard. by @j4yshun
