⭕️Full. Circle.⭕️ As our northern expedition comes to a close, Eric and I decided to fish out one more weekend hard before the long journey home in search of one of the few UP targets that has consistently alluded us this fall. In early April, we grinded for three straight days through a historic early spring storm, every river mouth closed by an Agarthian wall of ice. This fall, a severe drought has caused similar conditions, with many of the local berms closed to flow. At the time of the ice storm, we were prototyping the @mysterytacklebox AnglerPack, and really wanted to showcase a true fisherman’s journey along with the physicaly exhausting effort we put into these sends. We put down a marathon worth of miles through insane conditions, grinding for one singular holdover over the course of 3 days. It was one of the most surreal catches of the year for me. Flash forward to today, (and I’d call this a coincidence if I believed in them), the AnglerPack actually launched. we found ourselves 2000 miles from home at the exact same hole we tested our resilience during the prototyping shoot 7 months prior. Not the same state. Not the same river. The exact same hole. And what did we do? WE SWEPT. THE DAMN. SPOON. Fishing is so much like how Pete Rose described baseball; you don’t change your swing. You don’t change your approach. Those are what got you to where you are. You make a subtle adjustment; you move up in the box of its a little slow. Maybe a bit inside if you’re getting it off the end. But you stick with your gut, you trust in yourself, and you cast over and over again knowing that you can’t get hit unless your bait is in the water. A few years ago these are the sort of days I would’ve assumed I fished hard and went home empty handed. The love and passion we have for this sport, the education we’re constantly receiving from our community and peers, the patience and gratitude for each and every day on the water, all have helped us elevate all fall. It’s such a blessing to be out here and to have an opportunity, a chance to catch a fish like this. #neverendthesend by @j_floegel

I wouldn’t want to adventure through life with anyone else by my side! 💍❤️ You’re my best friend, my Captain. I love you so much @j_floegel seeing both our families under the tree on top of the hill as we turned the corner was beyond special. It meant so much to me. This recent fishing stretch with the @unclelarryoutdoors has reinvigorated my desire to continue the multi species journal archive. My OCD (if we’re in the millennial business of categorizing conditions) requires me to catch the story up chronologically, so here’s a collection of New Jersey Spring/Summer bass from the ultralight days. Anyone who fished with me from about 2018-2021 knows that I almost exclusively used my Uncle Larry’s ultralight rod for just about anything. Just about every bass I caught in this time period in Jersey was on that rod. Threw jigs, spinner baits didn’t matter. The idea was it was more important to send it further and more insanely than anyone else than be more traditionally “dialed” than anyone else. I felt so one with my weapon of choice; when the sword becomes the extension of your arm if you will. It’s also impossible to capture the essence of the Jersey fishing community and how epic these times were for friendships and adventures across the swamps in an area of the country where this lifestyle was not readily accepted or understood. These were the days of gravity bongs off the side of the tracker, 3 am wake ups returning 3 days later completely skunked in 100 degree heat, cracking ice to launch when we leave the ramp in 10 degree weather, pitching in college games and immediately driving 6 hours to try and catch a lake trout (still haven’t), Red Bulls and marb reds to stay awake and delirious 36 hour pass outs that must have terrified our parents when we returned for some sleep. When you see the fish were catching now and the ones we’re working towards in the future understand it would have been impossible to work for those moments without walking through the fires of the Jersey grind. Through the fire is forged steel and I will forever be grateful for the New Jersey roots; still yet to see another state produce as much incredible per capita talent and it’s for a reason @unclelarryoutdoors by @j_floegel
Next post in the fish appreciation journey takes me back to January of 2017. Winter break during junior year of college; lot of uncertainty and excitement in our lives and the water was always a place to slow down, process and experience the moment. I’ll never forget this morning; @eric.guarino and I showed up before sunrise at the Round Valley ramp playing Dukes on Sunday with a little one hitter and a few light spinning rods. It was 8 degrees. The water temps were so cold that our line froze and snapped at the flick of a nail and our lures would come back from the retrieve with a block of ice around them. We laughed and enjoyed the sunrise, and talked about the future a bit. I specifically remember mentioning how I wasn’t sure what I would do with my life, but might end up working in the city for 2 years and figure it out and Eric mentioned potentially doing work in the fishing community with Mike Iaconelli. Lesson learned; whether good or bad speak with intention because it’s incredible how our visions manifest over time as that’s exactly what occurred for both of us. Fast forward to the afternoon and I’m lazily drifting a ned rig out the back of the boat at a new reservoir. We had to break ice just to launch and the air temps had risen to about 20 degrees. In the span of 30 minutes I caught my PB brown trout and smallmouth on the coldest day of the year, my only two bites of the day. We later came to find out that body of water does not stock browns and that was a wild fish that had entered the waterways from a local creek years ago. Sometimes life is trippy and makes no sense but it all works out the way it is meant to, and I think back on this day often when I wonder what the heck we are doing and am lacking assuredness. As long as you have a bait in the water you always have a chance by @j_floegel
I’ve never truly utilized my personal page to the fullest, and with massive goals set for @unclelarryoutdoors in 2024 it seemed appropriate to start sharing more of my journey on a personal level and communicate directly with the unbelievable extended family we’ve come to know over these past 5 years. Fishing has always been so impactful on my life for such a variety of reasons that words alone can’t completely capture, but it’s my hope through the course of time I’ll be able to use this platform to share a bit of insight into how this passion has changed my life and so many others as well. Starting this off by throwing it back as far as my camera roll will take me, to freshman year of college with my baseball teammate Joe. A local spot on an October afternoon, a fence hop onto a rotting platform, a cheap two piece and a wacky rigged senko landed my PB largemouth and set a spark for a variety of ridiculous local adventures to come. Although I didn’t always feel my passion for the outdoors was entirely reciprocated during my experience in school, the shared moments with friends I did have along with the Babson entrepreneurial spirit continues to inspire and elevate my fishing endeavors. If you’re unsure where to start on the journey, a weightless worm and a hook will take you further than you can imagine #neverendthesend by @j_floegel
These guys are wise beyond their years! @j_floegel from @unclelarryoutdoors shares a story about doing what it takes to catch a tarpon and his insight on how why many fishing companies are not connecting with younger generations. “Do more with what you have. Don’t skip steps. It’s about the people, places, experiences, and lessons. The fishing will come.” Listen to the whole interview! 50 State Highpoint Adventure Part 3: • On this leg we scaled 11 highpoints in 13 days, driving ~5000 miles round trip and hiking ~120. We started the expedition with a trip down Florida’s last “Wild and Scenic” river, the Mayaka. En route to the Blue Hole (a mysterious 120 foot deep depression in the middle of the park) we were chased down by a 10 foot gator, hooked a golden river-run tarpon and a small snook. We headed north to Ocala where we stopped by a natural spring and took a dive to check out the cold water abyss of the forest (not pictured). From there we took a brief walk up Britton Hill, Florida’s highpoint and the lowest in the nation. We stopped for the night in Chehea State Park, where we were blown away by the humbling surroundings of Northern Alabama. Chehea Mountain was surprisingly challenging with a steep vertical incline and gave us a taste of the physical tests to come. The mountain also had a humorous personality and reminded us that they are indeed living entities, not simple random geological structures. From Chehea we continued north to Brasstown Bald in Georgia, where the steep roadways gave Cliff Floyd (my suburu) a harder time than our legs. We camped the night in the Blue Ridge Mountains in South Carolina deep in the wilderness, and would have been completely lost on a relatively abandoned dirt road had it not been for some friendly local nighttime dirt bikers. After hiking the completely wrong mountain, we finally conquered SC and continued to the Smoky Mountain range, where we spent an extra night at the base of Mount Mitchell. We met multiple angels on this part of the journey, sharing food and fishing baits with us as if we were family, yet no names were exchanged (an interesting phenomena that has remained consistent when meeting people of God on the trail). Mount Mitchell was absolutely stunning, and this 16.5 in and out loop set a new standard for the remainder of the trip. Shoutout once again to Madamn Zeroni for keeping us safe on what could have easily turned into a perilous journey. Part 4 from Tennessee to Pennsylvania coming soon. by @j_floegel

“Now Brother Preston is soaring with eagles high above, because he lived a life of love. Yes he's flying way up high, because he was a supercool guy. He's gone away, too soon it seems, leaving behind his unfinished dreams. Yes we remember Preston Blake, a man with faith no man could shake. A strength no man could break. A character no man could fake. For goodness sake, let's eat some cake” by @j_floegel
