Called names, locked inside the house, and made to feel ashamed of who she was — Jamini still chose to become herself.🌈

Born as Ritik, she fought through rejection, poverty, and isolation to become the first MBA graduate in her family. Today, she supports her mother and inspires countless young trans people to live fearlessly.

Her journey is not just about transition.
It’s about choosing self-worth over silence, every single day.🤍

“I was raised as Ritik in a cramped 10x10 room in Vikhroli, the oldest of four siblings. My mom worked as a house help and carried our family through my father’s struggles with addiction, but she stood firm on one thing: education was non-negotiable. After school, while she cleaned houses, I quietly picked up English from the people she worked for. I didn’t realize it then, but that language would one day become my shield.
Growing up, I always sensed I was different – a feminine child who loved singing, dancing, and dressing up. In 4th standard, I performed on stage dressed as a girl, and I still remember stepping out in make-up and a ghagra. For the first time, I didn’t feel strange. I felt completely like myself. If only life was that easy…
At 18, when I came out as gay, chaos erupted at home – my phone was taken, I was confined indoors, and relatives turned distant. It was during COVID that my mother’s perspective softened, after seeing queer voices online. The German lady she worked for told her, ‘If your son wants to be that way, it is how it should be and it’s okay.’ A cousin told me, ‘The world can be tough. If you want people to take you seriously, you have to let your work speak for you.’ So, I poured myself into my studies – first bachelor’s, then the first in my family to complete an MBA.
In college, I began experimenting with my clothes – moving from baggy shirts and shorts to bodycon dresses. I still remember the first saree I ordered, it was such a canon event! When my friend draped it on me, I felt something change within. I had already started transitioning socially. After that, there was no looking back.
Now that I’ve transitioned medically, I feel more at peace with myself than ever before. Today, I work in the corporate world – paying my bills, surprising my mom with little things she once went without, and finally living authentically – as Jamini.” by @jaaaamini

“Ek divorcee. Aur doosri Deepak se Diya ban gayi.” 😭

Nothing like a mother’s missed call to make two sisters banter.

A little moment from Second Chances, where Nidhi and Diya have the kind of conversations where nothing is off limits and somehow, everything is funny..

People ask me all the time, “How can you be friends with your ex? Isn’t it healthier to just cut them off?” And honestly, I get it. Sometimes letting go is exactly what you need.

But I think being queer asks us to let go of people far too often. We grow up losing pieces of ourselves, losing people, and being told that some kinds of love aren’t meant to last. So when we do find someone who has loved us, known us, and been a part of our lives, I don’t always want to throw that love away just because the relationship didn’t work.

This is @lifeofsagarmalkar . We were lovers, darlings, back when I was a twink. We didn’t work as a couple, and that’s okay. But somewhere along the way, we found a friendship that actually does work. And I’m really grateful we chose to keep that.

Maybe not every love is meant to stay the same. Some of it just finds another way to stay. 🤍 taken in Versova, Mumbai by @jaaaamini
