musik maleri/music painting (birds don’t fly without my permission)

This piece makes me think of a Lil Wayne song I always come back to “The Sky’s the Limit.” There’s this one bar where he says, “birds don’t fly without my permission” for some reason, that bar always hits me. It’s like he’s talking about the frustration of not being able to control nature. Like we are trying to have power over something that was never really ours.

As someone who grew up with Christian parents, that bar makes me think of the story about the forbidden fruit. And how things might’ve turned out if we never took that bite. In a way animals still live freely, like they never left paradise, while we are stuck with all this knowledge and responsibility. It’s like deep down, we’re a little jealous of how free they still are, and it reminds us of something we used to have but don’t anymore. taken in Copenhagen by @jaackkabangu

I was supposed to spend all of February in Dakar at an artist residency, but visa issues at the airport changed the plans for me. I’m currently enjoying all the “extra” time in my studio & suddenly these change of plans feels like a gift.

Luckily, I’ll got another chance to go to Dakar in May, and I’m really looking forward to it! taken in Copenhagen by @jaackkabangu
