This study examined whether atopic dermatitis delays puberty, using data from over 15,500 children in the Danish National Birth Cohort born between 2000 and 2003, with mothers reporting doctor-diagnosed AD at 6 months, 18 months, and 7 years old.

Researchers compared the timing of puberty milestones, including Tanner stages, axillary hair, acne, first ejaculation, voice break, and age at menarche, between children with and without AD.

The age differences observed were small and not statistically significant in either girls or boys. The study found no association between atopic dermatitis and the timing of puberty. by @jaadjournals

A Brief Report published in JAAD tested combining local 44°C hyperthermia with topical 3% hydrogen peroxide for warts. At 24 weeks, the combination group had significantly higher complete clearance (70.2%) than hyperthermia alone (53.3%) or peroxide alone (31.2%), plus a lower nonresponse rate and faster clearance times. Recurrence was low across all groups, below the 20% typically seen with cryotherapy. Side effects were mild to moderate.

While pain scores were highest in the combination group, they were not significantly different from the hyperthermia group.

Where does hair regrowth come from?

Researchers introduce "Prolonged Kenogen State" (PKS), a way to understand hair regrowth at the follicle level. Standard measures like hair count and shaft width cannot tell whether regrowth comes from dormant follicular units reactivating, existing hairs thickening, or both.

The authors propose categorizing kenogen, the post-shedding "resting" interval, into physiologic (under 3 months), intermediate (3 to 6 months), and prolonged, or PKS (over 6 months). Tracking the same follicular-unit sites over time could help clarify what is actually driving hair regrowth, and improve how treatment response is measured.

Hypothyroidism typically causes fatigue, cold intolerance, weight gain, constipation, and hoarseness. Lower thyroid hormone levels also affect the skin, often leading to dryness, swelling, and hair loss. These skin signs can be subtle, especially in older patients, but they may be the first clue to an underlying thyroid problem.

While syphilis is often referred to as the “great mimicker” due to its diverse clinical and histopathologic presentations, condyloma lata, a presentation of secondary syphilis, has a reproducible histopathologic pattern on routine hematoxylin and eosin stain.

Typically appearing as white, often macerated, verrucous plaques in the anogenital area, condyloma lata can also occur in extragenital locations such as the oral mucosa, umbilicus, and plantar/acral surfaces. Due to its rarity, it may be under-recognized by pathologists and mistaken for verrucous carcinoma, particularly in the mucosal and anogenital regions. This diagnostic pitfall can be avoided by recognizing its characteristic histopathologic features.

This study reviews 15 histopathologic cases of condyloma lata from 12 patients, highlighting the key diagnostic criteria.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common chronic inflammatory skin condition driven by genetics, environmental triggers, skin barrier dysfunction, and immune dysregulation. In rare cases, severe AD disrupts the skin barrier so significantly that it leads to protein deficiency, weight loss, electrolyte imbalances, and failure to thrive.

This case describes a 5-month-old girl who presented with altered consciousness due to electrolyte abnormalities, poor feeding, and weight loss. After extensive workup, she was diagnosed with severe AD and started on dupilumab.

This case underscores the rare but serious systemic complications of severe AD in infants and highlights the emerging role of biologic therapy in severe or refractory pediatric cases.

Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease affecting approximately 2% to 3% of the global population and frequently presents during the reproductive years, particularly in women of childbearing age.

Pregnancy safety data for biologic therapies in psoriasis are limited, and concerns persist regarding potential adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes.

In a large cohort, biologic exposure was not associated with increased adverse pregnancy or neonatal outcomes, supporting the obstetric safety of biologics compared with untreated psoriasis.

Pediatric atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common, chronic inflammatory skin disorder that significantly impacts the quality of life of affected children and their families. Multiple therapies were approved to treat AD in children and adolescents since publication of the AAD's 2014 AD guidelines.

The workgroup developed 27 evidence-based recommendations on the medical management of pediatric AD.

Strong recommendations support the use of moisturizers, topical calcineurin inhibitors, topical corticosteroids, crisaborole ointment, roflumilast cream, ruxolitinib cream, tapinarof cream, dupilumab, tralokinumab, lebrikizumab, nemolizumab with concomitant topical therapy, upadacitinib, abrocitinib, and baricitinib in the treatment of pediatric AD.

Conditional recommendations are in favor of bathing, bleach baths, wet dressings, phototherapy, methotrexate, mycophenolate mofetil, azathioprine, and cyclosporine, and against the use of topical antimicrobials, PUVA phototherapy, and strongly against systemic corticosteroids.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects 10% of the world's population and 1 in 7 adults in the United States. Dermatologic manifestations are common in CKD patients and are often challenging to diagnose and treat due to a broad differential diagnosis and lack of consensus guidelines.

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, relapsing skin disease with multiple systemic treatment options available. A panel of 14 dermatologists from Canada and the United States reviewed the evidence on these therapies and drafted guidance statements for healthcare providers in Canada. Of these, 29 statements reached the 75% agreement needed for consensus. https://www.jaadinternational.org/article/S2666-3287(25)00105-1/fulltext by @jaadjournals

A study published in JAAD investigated stature, height gain, and bone biomarkers over time in children with atopic dermatitis (AD) treated with dupilumab.

Among children aged six to 11 years who were below the 40th height percentile at baseline, 31.3% saw a five or greater percentile increase 16 weeks after initiating dupilumab. This grew to 50.7% by week 52. More than 20% achieved at least a 10% height gain and nearly 14% reached at least a 20% height gain at week 16.

By week 16, participants’ bone alkaline phosphatase (BALP) levels increased to 77.3 and 81.8 g/L among the dupilumab groups vs. 65 g/L in placebo. Those who transitioned to dupilumab from placebo at week 16 achieved BALP and height improvements that were comparable with those assigned dupilumab at the start of the trial, according to the study.
