JAÇ HiFi Café operates as a response to the Japanese jazz kissa tradition, reimagined for Barcelona. The architecture by Isern Serra Studio serves as a temple of sound, where the design is guided by tactile materials and an atmosphere as familiar as a private living room. This intentional approach gives the project a grounded character and an inherent authenticity, defined by a warm monochromatic envelope that allows the rich walnut wood to stand out in relief.

The layout prioritises the relationship between the listener and high-fidelity audio through distinct zones. The bar serves as a monolithic walnut sculpture, integrating custom speakers as an integral part of the structure. Toward the rear, a curved wooden installation forms an immersive listening alcove, pulling visitors into a cocoon of resonant sound. Every element is selected to balance Japanese precision with Mediterranean ease, offering a quiet retreat to slow down.

Over the last couple of years, the listening bar has transitioned from a niche Japanese tradition, namely the jazz kissa, to a global nightlife phenomenon, with venues proliferating across Europe and North America. It was perhaps only a matter of time before the format softened into daylight, giving rise to a new typology: the listening café. @jac.barcelona (owned by @ligiatorresp & @arnau.p.m) is a compelling case in point. Yet what sets it apart is not simply its programmatic shift, but the precision with which Barcelona-based studio @isernserra reinterprets the jazz kissa ethos through a language of restrained materiality, spatial clarity and quietly immersive atmosphere.

Centrally located on Avinguda Diagonal, the 95-square-metre space unfolds as a sequence of distinct yet interconnected zones, whose subtle differentiation makes the compact interior feel more expansive and relaxed; less like a typical café and more like a living room composed of several inviting nooks.
