Sometimes I forget who I am. So I go to ground. My bones still tell me that Beltane is here with its lusty, life-giving promise. But this southern hemisphere I have transplanted to sings to me about harvests and root cellars for storing what can be held — even briefly. For me, May holds memories of people passing on. And people passing through. The death of my mother. The birth of my daughter. Time to hold both hemispheres in my heart. Jacque Drew was a founding member of Portland’s Tygres Heart Shakespeare Company, where she performed in more than a dozen of Shakespeare’s plays and held leadership roles as Educational Director and later Artistic Director.

Since relocating to New Zealand, she has built a substantial career with close to four decades of professional stage and screen credits across the U.S. and Aotearoa to her name.

Jacque is co-director of AYA Drama School in Auckland and works extensively as a voice and dialect coach across stage and screen, as well as being a frequent guest tutor at leading acting training institutions - bringing her extensive experience as a performer and educator into every space she works.

Jacque is a career actor - you really sense from her that acting is her life; she absolutely loves it - and we absolutely love having her join us here at Frank. by @jacdrew

Opening night. I jumped on this fast moving train 3 weeks ago for the remount of a production that has been Auckland Theatre Company’s best selling show. I am thrilled to join the original company (along with 3 other newbies). I have never rehearsed a show this big, this quickly. Excited, humbled, and slightly nauseous. 25 years of marriage is no small feat. From that hot and heavy summer 27 years ago when we fell in love over Shakespeare’s text and excruciating clown workshops, to our test-drive, long distance courtship culminating in a production of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea in Wellington. From our magical Hawaiian wedding to the birth of our one and only human. From our free-lancing hard scrabble to make a living as creatives, to our continued collaboration as we try to keep paying that mortgage. To every meal we have enjoyed, every crisis we have survived, and to the future we face together. It is a fierce and frightening thing to know and be known to someone so intimately. It is an honour and privilege to see someone grow through this many years. And to still share the mysteries (why does Jeff stack the dishwasher like that? How does he fall sleep anywhere, any time, in any position? Why does he send me so many posts from Reddit?) I love you mate! Happy Anniversary! by @jacdrew
