This is @humanandhope! - the charity I have come to love and appreciate so much, by being an ambassador for them.

I’m so incredibly happy and honoured to be here in Siem Reap, Cambodia - and that I got to visit the community centre and hear all about their incredible initiatives, helping Cambodians and their community! ❤️

The organisation has been entirely Khmer-run since July 2016, which is very important for how they’re upholding their intentions: “for Cambodians to transform their lives through empowering and sustainable methods which are passed on from generation to generation … to empower Cambodians to create sustainable futures for themselves.”

Yesterday, the incredible Salin Loeum - the Managing Director and Co-Founder of the Human and Hope Association (HHA) - told us all about their programs and initiatives. Like @bloody_unstoppable - which raises funds to support Menstrual Health & Education for girls and women in Cambodia (@liliwilkinsonauthor - I saw the direct impact of your Ambassadorship of this program, which was phenomenal!)

I was also deeply moved and inspired to hear about HHA’s vocational sewing program, helping vulnerable women lift themselves out of poverty by teaching them valuable trade and life-skills. And of course we know: when you help women, it has a ripple-effect on their family and community too … the positive outcomes of this program were innumerable (and yes, all of us travellers purchased some gorgeous products made by these talented sewing graduates!)

And - the school! This is at the heart of the @chaptersforchangeau readathon, helping to improve literacy rates amongst local children in rural Siem Reap. Here they learn Khmer languages and English, but what I loved was seeing how much they’re also encouraged in their creativity and imaginations too ❤️

I cannot thank @sallymareehetherington enough for introducing me to her life’s work, and to Salin for the wonderful works he’s doing.

This has been my favourite day so far 🫶 if you’d like to donate to this amazing organisation, please visit 👉 https://humanandhope.org 👈

Hey! Let’s mandate teacher-librarians and see investment in school libraries, so that every child has access to their life-changing benefits!

I just emailed my local representatives and Minister for Education Jason Clare MP - have you?

Here’s a little run-down of what’s been happening, and for more check out 📕 https://daniellebinks.substack.com/p/mandate-teacher-librarians 📕

Welp. As Jennifer Lopez once sang; “LET’S GET LOUD!”

@alia_schools, @studentsneedschoollibraries and @katejoltemple have been banging this drum but now they need us to all tap into our communities and keep the choir singing out to those in power 👉

From the #AustralianSchoolLibraryAssociation —

Grassroots advocacy is a powerful force for change, and every voice matters.

Every voice adds pressure and advocacy is most powerful when we sing as a choir.

Every kid in Australia deserves a school library and a teacher-librarian.

It’s time for our governments to mandate libraries and teacher-librarians. In fact, It’s well overdue.

Fifty-eight teacher-librarians have just lost their jobs (or been redeployed to classroom positions) in the Maitland-Newcastle Catholic diocese schools in NSW.

These losses are just the latest in what has been a steady and devastating cutting of teacher-librarian positions all around the country. Many schools do not have a teacher-librarian and some do not even have a library.

Many people and organisations are campaigning for teacher-librarians and school libraries to be mandated. For instance, the recent petition started by author Kate Temple, and the work being done by this organisation ASLA (Australian School Libraries Association), SNSL (Students Need School Libraries) and ALIA (Australian Library and Information Association) and Australia Reads, among others.

Please join us and ask your state and federal MPs to support the mandating of teacher-librarians and a library in every Australian school

$Just very wise words from @zoedaniel during dark times. ‘I knew one of us could get hurt eventually. I never thought it would be my friend Helen’ : There will now be a flood of rhetoric about who is to blame. Don’t fall for the political opportunism from left or right. We are all responsible Call it a sign of the times; the apparent spillover of online behaviour into the real world, egged on by global political influences, the fracturing caused by Covid, the endemic mental health issues in our communities, the isolation and aggravation, the widening wealth gap, the outright anger, the threats. “Mainstream media’s business model is built almost entirely on mortal combat and clickbait. Social media drives outrage for profit” 🧡🍊 #ZoeDaniel #AusPol #HelenHaines #GuardianAustralia #AustralianPolitics by @jacintadimase$

‘Little Bones’ (@uqpbooks) by Sandy Bigna (@aussie_kids_books) has won the $10,000 2026 ACT Book of the Year Award!

The annual award celebrates outstanding contemporary literary works by ACT authors and highlights the depth of talent within Canberra’s writing community.

#LittleBones follows eleven-year-old Bones, a young girl navigating grief and loss who has drifted away from her friends and doesn’t want to make new ones. Using elements of magic realism to help explore friendship, belonging and the process of learning to let go, the work was celebrated for its maturity and sensitivity while addressing complex themes.

Judges recognised Little Bones for its tender, poetic and assured storytelling. They praised the work as a profound meditation on grief, friendship and healing that leaves a lasting emotional impression on readers.

Congratulations to #SandyBigna on this remarkable and well-deserved award!

The Wilderness Society - @wilderness_aus - has announced the winners of the 2026 Environment Award for Children’s Literature and Karajia Award for Children’s Literature.

And we are thrilled to announce that ‘Spirit of the Crocodile: A Torres Strait Island Story’ has won in the Fiction category!

Written by Aaron Fa’Aoso & Michelle Scott Tucker, with consultant editor Lyn White (@allenandunwin); ‘On Saibai Island, a dare gone wrong pulls Ezra and his best mate Mason into a fight to protect the Torres Strait—a warm portrait of culture, family and Country on the frontline of climate change.’

Created in 1994, the Environment Award for Children’s Literature aims “to champion stories that inspire curiosity, care and wonder for the living world”. The judging panel this year includes musician John Williamson, writer, educator and scientist Kristin Darell, and climate scientist and science communicator Linden Ashcroft.

The Karajia Award for Children’s Literature “honours First Nations storytelling that carries knowledge of Country, culture, language and community”. Judges for the awards include Aunty Munya Andrews, journalist Marlee Silva, and television presenter, educator and advocate Shelley Ware.

Nature Book Week ambassador Jen Martin said, “For over 3 decades, the Wilderness Society’s Karajia and Environment Awards for Children’s Literature have celebrated stories that invite children into the living world around them – awakening care for nature and deepening connection to Country, culture, and place.”

HUGE congratulations to our own @carlyfindlay - a finalist in the 2026 Australian Human Rights Commission Awards, in the Community category! @aushumanrights

#CarlyFindlay has been; “Recognised for her advocacy for the rights of people with disability and for building understanding and inclusion through community engagement and storytelling.”

About the nomination, Carly said; “It means so much to be named as a finalist - and I am so thankful to every disability advocate (and every day person, even if they don’t own the title of disability advocate) who has worked so hard to uphold human rights for disabled people, who create spaces for us, and who constantly speak of the entrenched ableism and discrimination that so many disabled people around the world face - especially systemic and institutional ableism. You are my role models - you continue to fight for human rights even when you’re experiencing oppression, discrimination, poverty and indignity. Thank you.”

Once again, congratulations Carly! We are so proud!

Nour Abdel Latif @nourgaza is an exceptional writer and teacher and mother of three children who lives in Gaza. Since the start of the genocide in 2023, Nour has lost so much: see her message below. Throughout it all Nour has been trying to write and record her experiences.

She was one of the four Gazan writers – the others were @mahmouddmaher @batool_abu_akleen and @ezzideenshehab — whose words we included on RWAG merch in order to raise funds for their families (see rwag.dasutomat.com).

Nour is the only one of those four writers who hasn’t managed to leave Gaza to study or work.

Nour has now been offered a scholarship to study abroad but she needs to prove she has adequate funds for her living costs. She needs to raise 7000 Euros (approx. $11,500).
Please help Nour resume her studies and her life:

♥️🇵🇸Message from Nour♥️🇵🇸

I am writing to ask for your help. Not simply because I want to study, but because I need a way forward. For the past three years, I have watched the world I knew disappear piece by piece. I lost my sister. I lost my home. I have been displaced again and again, carrying my children and whatever little remained of our lives from one place to another. For months, we lived in a tent by the sea.

I have watched my children go hungry. I have watched them grow up too quickly, learning words like displacement, hunger, bombardment, and death when they should have been learning about books, games, and dreams. And somehow, through all of this, I kept writing.
I wrote from the tent. I wrote between one displacement and the next. I wrote when there was very little left to say and even less strength with which to say it. During the famine, I also wrote one of the most heartfelt poems I have ever written: ‘If I Must Starve’. It touched your hearts, and your response reminded me that even in the darkest moments, words can still reach people.

I refuse to let this war write the ending of my story.

Because I have lost a great deal. But I have not lost my voice. And as long as I can still write, I am still here.

With love and gratitude,
Nour by @jacintadimase
