Vicky and I finished reading the entire Bible together last month! Here’s what I’ve learned through that experience:

💛 Have you heard the saying “you become what you consume”? We do, we truly do! The more you read about God’s definition of real life and witness Jesus’ example of it, the more you transform into an imperfect vessel of that love. When you study true wisdom, you naturally pursue the virtues needed to become wise (particularly fear of the Lord and prudence). The words you consume are the words you contemplate and talk with others about. How fitting that those words should be His!

💛 The prayer “Lord, make me thirst for Your word the way I thirst for water” is incredibly powerful! Are there still days where I choose more time doing literally anything else? Yes! I am an imperfect human being, but I can say that a day without time in His word now feels like a missing puzzle piece.

💛 Song of Songs is, by far, my favorite book of the Old Testament😍 It’s deep symbolism, beautiful poetry, and Jesus as Bridegroom calls to my heart constantly🥹

💛 I rarely wonder about deep theological questions. This is not because they are not important or incredible questions to ask! My brain simply doesn’t think in an analytical ways lol. Instead, I am always pondering the symbolism of various plants, fabrics, objects, or forms of nature. I ponder what it would be like to witness stories, especially those found in the Gospels. I ask questions about remaining and transformation because relationship is the core of my being.

All I want is to remain in His love and turn that love into actions for others (which is why I describe myself as a beautiful combination of Martha and Mary)💗🕊️

💛 Vicky = the Johnathan to my David, the dear friend of my soul🫂✨

💛 I am more attentive to “God winks” and His movements in my heart❤️‍🔥✝️

I am no better than anyone who has never read the Bible or never read it all the way through! This sweet accomplishment does not make me holier than anyone else!

I simply wanted to share because of the joy and transformation this journey brought me.

I love you, and (for my Christian friends) I highly recommend quality time in His word❤️ by @jacintapatton_

A conversation between you and Jesus:

Jesus: “I see you.”

You: “You do! You see everyone and everything!”

Jesus: “No, My dear one, I see you. I see all that you cannot explain. I see everything you wish people would notice without you having to say anything. I see the things you are scared to admit. I see it all, and it only makes me love you even more.”

You: “I…thank You. It’s not enough, but it’s all I have. Thank you!”

Jesus: “You are good enough. It’s not what you do or how you do it that makes me love you. I love you, as you are and as I made you. It is your presence that I wait for each day, and all I want is to be near you.”

You’re pulled in for a hug and you melt into His embrace.

You: “How am I what you hold most dear? I’m little and I make mistakes. Oh how I love You!”

Jesus: “It is for the little and childlike that I have come. I am the Heavenly physician, and physicians come for the sick. It is for your mistakes that I died on the cross. Those things don’t scare Me, they draw Me in.”

Jesus: “You are My chosen, beloved, and lovable one.”

Stay with Him. Let Him hold you here for as long as you need.

Dear You, Reader of This Caption,

I love you. It doesn’t matter how long I’ve known you, if we’ve met in person yet, or if you have no idea who I am. I love you and am incredibly happy to be alive at the same time as you!

You are worth loving, truly loving. Real love requires sacrifice. It calls you to sacrifice time, convenience, your talents, money, sleep, and more. YET, real love willingly and joyful does those things for you! You are worth missing out on sleep to hold you while you cry. You are worth remembering the little details and applying that to holiday + random gifts. You are worth sacrificing a fully recharged social battery to let the introvert recuperate or the extrovert recharge through conversation. It is a privilege to love you, and if someone isn’t making you feel that way, that isn’t true love.

You are beautiful. All of the national parks, oceans, animals, flowers, masterpieces in the sky, are nothing compared to your beauty. Jesus made you, so that makes you His favorite view🥹

You are allowed to not be okay. You are allowed to fall apart. You are allowed to cry. You are allowed to feel lonely even if you have a lot of friends. You are allowed to wish to be loved in other or more frequent ways even though you have incredible friends. You are allowed to feel emotionally tired from being “the designated planner/initiating friend”. You are allowed to feel pain and be sad. It’s human, and you’re human.

I am proud of you! Your hard work does not go unnoticed. The steps you’ve taken are a big deal, even if they feel small. That obstacle you overcame wasn’t easy and deserves applause, even if hardly anyone knows. The way you’ve grown is incredible, and I hope you feel incredible!

The world is better because you’re in it🩵 Thank you for being here!

What John 15: 1-10 + researching grape vines taught me:

Grape vines have five stages of growth: dormancy, bud breaking, flowering, veraison, and harvest 🍇

The first stage involves rest and storing up energy, and when intense pruning is conducted. This is done in preparation for top-quality fruit once the waiting season ends. As our vine, Jesus uses seasons of waiting and remaining to prune and prepare us for the goodness He prepares for us internally and externally.

The second stage is bud breaking. Bud breaking involves buds popping open and new leaves sprouting. Jesus uses this season/stage to begin healings and open doors. He asks us to take small steps with Him.

✨Fun fact (and stage three): Did you know that grape vines are almost completely self-pollinating? Jesus is our pollination, the refreshment and revival essential to our souls. While bees play some part in replenishing flowering plants (as friends and family do with our souls), Jesus is the source and summit of it all. He can do for us what other people cannot. The flowering/self pollination stage also involves flowers “shattering” to form the beginnings of grapes. Sometimes Jesus will call us to break apart or shatter from various people or places to become the fully formed person we are meant to be.✨

Stage four is Veraison. Veraison is when the grapes soften and stop growing for a time, transitioning to their final green or red/purple color. It is Jesus alone who can break down any walls, smash the chains of sin, or cleanse us of our former ways (or color in the grapes case). We are softened for Him, with Him, and in Him, and that softening comes in many forms.

In the final step, the grapes are harvested. Since we are the branches of His vine, it is we who bear fruit that must be harvested. The fruit God the Father harvests from the vine of His Son cannot stay within us. Our virtues, talents, and good personality traits are meant to be shared with the world and point others back to Him.

Life with God is like a roadtrip, and we’re the passengers, but it doesn’t mean we just sit there.

Passengers in a car generally take two roles: passenger princess or the helper.

A passenger princess gets to simply be. They put their feet up (if that’s allowed), sit back, and enjoy the views. They “turn off their brains” and relax as the driver takes them where they need to go. They genuinely let the other person take the wheel and love giving them the control.

A helper, on the other hand, is not a passive passenger. They take charge of setting up the navigation system or even navigate themselves. They help feed the driver or give them sips of water. They point out the beautiful views and tell them to look when it’s safe to do so. They keep an eye out for gas stations, rest stops, vistas, and more.

In our journeys with the Lord, we are called to be both. There are moments when He calls us to complete surrender, asking us to sit back and let Him do everything for us. He gives us moments of utter rest and release to watch His love and will play out. Likewise, He calls us to act with Him. He cannot move without us, and He will not move without us. He calls us to take first steps, ask questions, seek options, and request help. He allows us to navigate even if it means we’ll take a wrong turn or two. Relationship with Him is a beautiful give and take of paying attention to His movements and moving how or when He wants you to move.

It is good and beautiful to remain with the Lord, to put your feet up and let Him carry you. Yet, it is just as beautiful (and more common) to move how and whenever He calls you to do so.
