Sold my Mk8 Golf R yesterday so this will probably be its last post. It’s strange because I genuinely don’t think I’m gonna miss this car. Don’t get me wrong it’s a great car and engineered wonderfully; which unfortunately is its hang up. The Magna torque vectoring is nearly flawless the primed turbos are amazing at generating boost with no turbo lag between shifts and the overall response is amazing. The problem is that it lacks driver engagement. It doesn’t live up to the “Fahvergnügen” slogan Volkswagen built their brand on. The 19” wheels make you feel the road but not in a good way, 18”s would have been a far better factory option. I’ll probably get flamed for it, but the manual transmission is not the way to go with these. It’s too over engineered to drive this car at its full potential with a manual. The DSG is simply better. I’m not trying to bash the Mk8 but it’s not an enthusiast car. It drives amazing handles well and can be fun but it doesn’t make you feel connected. It doesn’t feel like you’re driving it, more like you’re telling it what to do. I will say I didn’t have any steering wheel issues or electrical quirks that a lot of people complained about either. I can honestly say this would be a fantastic all around daily driver for someone who wants to have some fun here and there but still have practicality and reliability. It does what it’s supposed to do very well, but in this case that’s ultimately its down fall. Idk I’m not a professional car reviewer but this may be why Volkswagen is losing sales or not getting support from enthusiasts. The Mk8 is not a bad car by any means I truly did enjoy it the past three years, It’s just a bad enthusiast car if that makes sense. I guess at the end of the day all cars are shit, you just gotta pick the shit you like. I’ve been wanting to go to the Tail of the Dragon for @wookiesinthewoods for years back when I had my .:R32 but never had the opportunity. So this year when I was invited to @attackthedragon I didn’t hesitate to go. I took my Mk8 Golf R and put in a solid 2,000+ miles in 4 days. Incredible driving experience. 11/10 would recommend going if you can. Anyway here are some rad shots by @killboydotcom taken in Tail of the Dragon by @jack.mkiv

This past weekend I said goodbye to my favorite car I’ve ever owned. The past seven years I had it is full of great memories that I’ll hold onto the rest of my life. This car was there for so many life changes and brought me many life-long friendships. I don’t think I’ll ever be as emotionally attached to a piece of machinery as this. Thank you.
