Today marks 4 years since I’ve quit drinking, and life only continues to prove to me that it was the best decision I could have made for myself.

Each year I make this post, it comes with some reluctancy. It has never been about convincing everyone - or anyone - to quit drinking. It was never about being against alcohol, because I’m not. And it was certainly never to boast.

It has always been about those people out there who may be thinking about stopping, and come across this. They’ve wrestled with the idea, but perhaps are waiting for the right “sign”. If that’s you, let this yearly post be your sign. taken in Florida Gulf Coast by @jack_miller44

I don’t typically sit down and “reflect” on the past year around January 1 like others may do. However, the past few weeks I’ve been looking back on my 2025, and what this year now means to me. I’d call it challenging, transformative, and above all surreal.

There are times in life where we find ourselves going through the motions, living in darkness, or simply feeling as though we’ve hit rock bottom. Whether we think we’ve hit this point in our career, our financials, our mental health, or all of the above. These things are a part of life that a lot of us experience. However, the best part about rock bottom is you have nowhere else to go but up.

2025 turned from what felt like the darkest year of my life, to what is now what I can confidently say the best year of my life. I stepped way outside of my comfort zone by making a move from Nebraska to Florida, and dug myself out of a career rut and into my dream job. If you’re thinking to yourself, “Who wouldn’t be happier working their dream job in Florida?”, that’s kind of my point…

I encourage anyone out there who feels as though they are near the bottom to remember, the dream job, the pay raise, the happiness, it’s all waiting for you once you get back to the top. Here’s to an even better 2026.
