🇬🇧 London Reflections 🇬🇧

After a very busy week (that included a move!) wanted to reflect on the @londonmarathon weekend.

So proud of Julia on her 8th place finish that included a a national record 🇺🇾 and personal best. After a block that included new pressures, a not great race, and injury niggles, she was able to manage a perfectly executed mostly solo effort. Took a ton of perseverance and self belief. She kept calm and carried on.

Other highlights:
1. Seeing history being made with 2 men sub 2.
2. Spending time with the legend @runsohfast
3. Meeting many of my own online athletes after they had their own very gritty races. by @jack_polerecky

This past week in Tokyo has been an absolutely unbelievable experience that I’m still struggling to put into words. Medalling at a world championships is beyond anything we could have dreamed of, but it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving person than Julia.

I am incredibly proud of Julia, not because of what she achieved, but how she achieved it. How she handled a very tough training block. How she ran her own race and maintained her composure at the highest level. How she has handled all of the attention and press that has come after. I am incredibly lucky to be her coach and have had a front row seat to her journey.

Several thanks: First to @mckirdytrained and the McKirdy Trained team. We have and are continuing to create something special. To the Flagstaff community, who have fostered the best possible place to train. To @atletismocau for believing in Julia from the beginning and their continued support through all of this. And to the Uruguyan people. I have never seen more love and pride. Uruguay noma🇺🇾 taken in Tokyo, Japan by @jack_polerecky

🗣️ “When I entered the stadium, I thought I was in sixth, fifth, something like that… I had no idea I was in third. I was just trying to run my own race. If someone was going to catch me at the end, so be it – but my race plan was to keep running my own race.”

Newly minted bronze medalist @juliapaternain_ joined us live in Tokyo to share the behind-the-scenes of her historic marathon at the World Championships.

In just her second marathon and as the last athlete to qualify in the event, Julia defied the odds to finish on the podium and land Uruguay’s first global medal.

🎧 Julia joined the CITIUS MAG Podcast to break down the race, her shock the moment she realized she finished third, her race goals with @jack_polerecky heading into the marathon, her breakout year with @mckirdytrained in Flagstaff, and lots more.
