“ At the age of 18, told my parents I was going to drop out of college and become a professional surfer and they nearly lost their s***. To them that wasn’t a viable career path especially for someone who had just started surfing the year prior.”

Fast forward 15 years and I am still chasing that dream. It hasn’t been without it’s difficulties but I feel really lucky that I have found a career in helping people achieve their dreams. I think the big take away is that if you follow your heart, things seem to work out in some weird way. I look forward to seeing what’s to come of the next generation.

He has dedicated his life to becoming the ultimate waterman! Learning directly from greats such as @lairdhamilton and also through his own experiences, he has become one of the most skilled and knowledgeable watermen on the planet..
More than that, he lives for his family and community and spends a lot of time guiding the new generation of watermen and women and giving them the opportunities he was given.

We are officially 4 weeks out from the start of our Ocean Safety and Waterman Skills class for ages (16+) This class is for people who want to further their ocean knowledge and understanding. With lineups continually becoming more and more packed, it’s important for people to have the skills and ability to handle themselves physically, emotionally and become an asset to the lineup in the case of emergency.

Through my years as a Capitola Junior Lifeguard Instructor, seasonal lifeguard and now Ocean Safety and Sports instructor for the youth of Santa Cruz for the last 10 years, I have been asked when this course will be available to adults and the time has finally come.

The course will be the weekend of October 10th, 11th and 12th and will consist of 24 hours of instruction including apnea and dynamic breath work in the pool and ocean with coach @rwurbina of @apexppc, CPR and First Aid certification through @medicsforlifeinc and Ocean Risk Management and Ocean Safety skills with myself @jackakrop19 of @oceanxascents.

The thing that’s great about this course is it’s small groups (15 people max) which allows for lots of individualized attention. This is a big part of our teaching philosophy but it means we sell out quick so be sure to sign up ASAP.

Big thank you to @kyle_buthman for making this awesome edit and for all the people who’s footage we’ve used. This course has been a collaborative effort so big thank you to everyone that has helped out in creating this curriculum. We look forward to seeing you really soon!
