Katie Taylor: A Legend’s Last Win — Forging an Immortal Legacy at Croke Park
Dublin, Ireland — Under the floodlights of Croke Park, where the echoes of Irish sporting history resonate loudest, Katie Taylor didn’t just win a fight. She cemented her status as an immortal. In what is being billed as A Legend’s Last Win, the Bray native delivered a performance equal to the moment — a masterclass of skill, heart, and unyielding will that once again united a nation behind its greatest sporting icon.
The Night History Was Written
Croke Park, hallowed ground for Ireland, played host to a moment that will be told for generations. Stepping out in front of a fervent home crowd, every punch Taylor threw carried the weight of expectation — and the grace of a champion. She didn’t disappoint. With her signature blistering hand speed, relentless pressure, and ring IQ that has defined her career, Taylor turned the night into a coronation. When the final bell rang and the verdict was announced, the words WINNER — KATIE TAYLOR weren’t just a result — they were a statement.

It was more than a victory; it was a full-circle moment for a fighter who has spent her entire career lifting women’s boxing to new heights.
A Legacy Forged in Gold and Glory
Katie Taylor’s legacy stretches far beyond one night or one venue. It began long before the pro ranks, when she became the face of women’s boxing at the 2012 London Olympics, capturing gold and breaking down barriers that once kept women’s sport on the sidelines. That Olympic triumph was just the start: she went on to become undisputed world champion across multiple weight divisions, holding belts from every major sanctioning body — WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO, and more — all while redefining what excellence looks like in the ring.
Her resume speaks for itself:
Olympic Gold Medalist (London 2012)
Undisputed Lightweight World Champion
Two-Weight Undisputed World Champion
A career built on skill, sportsmanship, and an unshakeable fighting spirit
But numbers don’t tell the full story. Taylor’s true legacy lies in inspiration. For young girls across Ireland and the world, she proved that you can be strong, fierce and unapologetically yourself. by @jackburton52018

Parton never stopped making music after that.

Quincy Jones, producer and entertainment powerhouse, dies aged 91

Widely and wildly talented musician and industry mogul worked with Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Will Smith and others Quincy Jones, a titan of American entertainment who worked with stars from Frank Sinatra to Michael Jackson and Will Smith, has died aged 91.
Jones’ publicist, Arnold Robinson, said he died on Sunday night at his home in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles, surrounded by his family.
“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing,” the family said in a statement. “And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.” Jones was arguably the most versatile pop cultural figure of the 20th century, perhaps best known for producing the albums Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad for Michael Jackson in the 1980s, which made the singer the biggest pop star of all time. Jones also produced music for Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer and many others.
He was also a successful composer of dozens of film scores, and had numerous chart hits under his own name. Jones was a bandleader in big band jazz, an arranger for jazz stars including Count Basie, and a multi-instrumentalist, most proficiently on trumpet and piano. His TV and film production company, founded in 1990, had major success with the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and other shows, and he continued to innovate well into his 80s, launching Qwest TV in 2017, an on-demand music TV service. Jones is third only to Beyoncé and Jay-Z for having the most Grammy award nominations of all time – 80 to their 88 each – and is the awards’ third most-garlanded winner, with 28. by @jackburton52018

James Earl Jones, iconic actor and memorable voice of Darth Vader and Mufasa, dead at 93.
Tributes poured in for the 93-year-old acting legend as fans described his voice as "one of the most powerful in cinema history". Acting great James Earl Jones, who voiced Star Wars villain Darth Vader and Mufasa in The Lion King, has died at the age of 93.
Jones, a longtime sufferer of diabetes, died at his home surrounded by family members, his agent Barry McPherson said. No cause of death was provided.
He appeared in Conan the Barbarian, played Eddie Murphy's dad in Coming to America and starred in The Hunt for Red October and Patriot Games.
But it was his iconic voice as the villainous Darth Vader for which he was best known.
Jones was one of the few entertainers to have won the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards).
Celebrities paid tribute to Jones, with Colman Domingo, who stars in the recently released Sing Sing, saying on X: "Thank you dear James Earl Jones for everything. A master of our craft.
"We stand on your shoulders. Rest now. You gave us your best."
The Empire State Building posted an image from earlier this year of the landmark in New York being lit up with a striking image of Lord Vader as part of its Star Wars dynamic light show event.
One of Jones' earliest roles was a small part in Stanley Kubrick's famous Cold War satire, Dr Strangelove.
His long list of awards included Tonys for The Great White Hope in 1969 and Fences in 1987 on Broadway and Emmys in 1991 for Gabriel's Fire and Heat Wave on television.
He also won a Grammy for best spoken word album, Great American Documents in 1977.
Fellow Star Wars actor Samuel L. Jackson previously said of him: "If you were an actor or aspired to be an actor, if you pounded the pavement in these streets looking for jobs, one of the standards we always had was to be a James Earl Jones." by @jackburton52018

“Rhasidat Adeleke is a beautiful emblem of everything that’s great about modern Ireland.
“She symbolises talent, hard work, achievement at the highest possible level and diversity “She represents the Ireland that the vast majority of us want to live in.” – The Walls Project.

A mural of Irish Olympian Rhasidat Adeleke has been unveiled in Waterford  City.
It is one of dozens of murals brightening up the area as part of a street art festival.
The large-scale works range from abstract art to depictions of Irish mythology as well as freestyle graffiti to hyperrealistic portraits of well-known people. The Adeleke tribute on Jenkins Lane was created by muralist JEKS, who is usually based in North Carolina.
It was completed during Waterford Walls, Ireland’s largest international street art festival.
The festival, organised by The Walls Project, is running until August 18th and features food, music and live street art.
Adeleke (21) from Dublin narrowly missed out on the medals podium in her two events, the women’s 400m and 4x400m relay.
She placed fourth in the individual event while the Irish quartet came achingly close to bronze in the team event – breaking a national record in the process.
As Ireland’s first ever woman Olympic sprint finalist, Adeleke also became a role model for aspiring athletes across the country.
In a social media post, The Walls Project said: “How lucky are we to have such amazing talent here in Ireland? While Ireland isn’t perfect, the progress our country has made over the last 20 years is staggering. by @jackburton52018

Ireland just fall short to finish fourth in Olympic women's 4x400m relay final

The United States of America claimed gold while the Netherlands took silver and the United Kingdom piped the Irish to bronze.
The Irish women’s quartet of Adeleke, Sophie Becker, Phil Healy and Sharlene Mawdsley occupied that same, infuriating position in the final of the women’s 4x400m, denied a medal at the Stade de France by less than one fifth of a second.
That’s just a metre and a half of track in a 1600m race. Fine margins. The difference between everything they wanted and the absolutely nothing they’ve suddenly been left with. In time, they’ll realise this achievement is not nothing, that it’s something truly significant and utterly seismic for Irish sprinting.
They had utterly obliterated their national record, clocking 3:19.90 to take almost three seconds off the time they’d run to win silver at the Europeans in Rome in June. How good was that time? Well, this is the first time ever a team has broken 3:20 in this event and not won a medal. Their 3:19.90 would have been enough for silver in every Olympic final apart from 1988. by @jackburton52018
