Brand identity system for Fauna Robotics – a company building capable, safe, fun robots 🤖

The brand design deliberately pushes away from the typical cold, scientific world of robotics to something warmer and lovable (the visuals of Wall-E and Big Hero 6 were genuine inspirations). I tried to echo this idea in all the system elements from the marks, color palette and type choices to the modular shapes that let you build any kind of robot friend!

Fauna launched with this cute fellow called Sprout earlier this year 🌱 Thanks to the team for bringing me in to work on this!

Beep boop. Visual identity design for Fauna Robotics – a company building lightweight, safe robots for human spaces.

The Fauna team wanted a visual language that embodied their positive vision of the robotic future – robots as safe, useful, and ultimately joyful (think Big Hero 6 over those scary MIT machines). More to share soon 🤖 by @jackc0llins

Time for a different kind of project 🕵🌒🔥

The past year+ I’ve been running a ttrpg (tabletop role-playing game for the uninitiated) with some dear friends. After being a long-time player it was my first time running a game myself and I loved it. As part of the campaign I designed a bunch of pieces and props – in-world newspapers, maps, invitations, clues, custom character sheets, and items. This is a story and time with friends I will always treasure so commemorating it here 💛

I would genuinely love to work more in this space so in the long shot chance you or someone you know is in need of graphic design for your boardgame or ttrpg project hit me up!

The pixel-based visual language of the brand was inspired by early computer interface design. I’ve always loved the friendliness and charm of those initial forays into UI and icon design. They made the previously cold and text-based digital world more approachable and comprehensible. I wanted to bring some of that same sensibility to Dev Ally as they carry on a contemporary continuation of that objective. by @jackc0llins

Type and colour studies for the new Dev Ally brand 🎨

We had a pretty extensive checklist of qualities that the brand typeface had to follow to best meet accessibility standards. We ended up selecting the Freight family for its humanist characteristics, low contrast forms, and support for different weights and languages. The brand colour palette is built for high contrast and uses light and dark pairs for expression without sacrificing legibility. by @jackc0llins

Brand identity design for Dev Ally – a platform to make the web more accessible. The identity system is informed by the latest web accessibility standards, starting with the badge mark that ensures colour contrast between the name and background. The broader visual language harkens back to the early days of pixel-based digital interface design that helped to define and visualise our onscreen worlds.

This was a special project for many reasons but chief among them was the opportunity to work with a friend – thank you Cormac @chizzybizzy for inviting me along and the whole Dev Ally team for being wonderful partners on this process. by @jackc0llins
