Seema Misra OBE.

I’m overwhelmed by the response to last night’s episode of Extraordinary Portraits. Such incredible support - Thank you 🙏🏽 Seema’s story of her battle with the Post Office is an incredible moving one and it was an honour to tell it.

I’ll post a little more detail over the coming days but in the meantime, once again - Thank you.

This episode will be respeated on Monday night, BBC Two at 7.30pm and all episodes are available on BBC iPlayer.

So I can finally share this. I was honoured to be asked to paint this portrait of Sully to mark the launch of the final season of Netflix’s Top Boy.

Curated by Ronan Mckenzie this free exhibition at Somerset House is now open to the public until 13th September. I’m exhibiting alongside 15 other exceptionally talented artists.

If you can get to see it please do. The series has had a huge cultural impact and I’m grateful that Netflix have had the vision to use portraiture as a way of adding to the show’s legacy.

Thanks to everyone below for including me in this.

80 faces down, 170 to go.

I’ve been quiet on here for a while — this is a significant part of the reason why. Since early this year I’ve been working through 250 portraits of the people of Hall & Woodhouse to help mark the company’s 250th anniversary.

No two faces the same, 250 individuals, each one requiring a slightly different approach. But painted together like this, something else is emerging: not just a workforce, but a family. A culture. A collective sense of who this company actually is, told through the people who make it.

More to come as the rest get painted.

“Reconciliation” Mandela & Tutu, 2024.

Mixed media collage built in layers, sanded back, rebuilt, with a seam of gold leaf that appears and disappears across the surface, never quite constant.
This instability felt right for the subject. My practice keeps returning to the space between certainty and ambiguity. When contradiction isn’t resolved so much more seems to appear, multiplicity and multiple meaning is an end in itself rather than trying to answer or solve.
These two extraordinary men who didn’t always agree, manifested a truth process built on the hope that justice and mercy could coexist. This felt like exactly that territory.
The piece was shown at Lighthouse Gallery London in 2024, and again at my own show at Gallery 8 in 2025. Both times it drew real interest, but nothing came of it, and I assumed its moment had passed.
It’s just been acquired by a collector who first saw it at that exhibition, over a year ago, and kept it in mind.
Full story in the carousel.

If we’ve gone a bit quiet online, that’s because the family is back together, filming something exciting!

Once again, painting and sculpting the extraordinary stories of everyday people.

Stay tuned for updates.

Three months in the studio compressed into 90 seconds. A quick time-lapse of how the portrait of Seema Misra OBE was created for the last series of Extraordinary Portraits.

Prints of this portrait will soon be available on my website.

I’ve had so many thoughtful enquiries about commissions recently — thank you. These works are examples of commissions where I was given time, trust, and creative freedom. They are a record of a relationship between artist and commissioner or sitter, where we shared ideas around identity, belonging, and layered, nuanced, often complex personal histories.
I’m currently in the process of selecting a small number of new commissions (around four) to begin in the autumn. At the same time I’ll be developing a new body of work alongside these commissioned pieces. If you’re thinking about a portrait and feel your ideas might resonate with the way I work, you’re very welcome to open a conversation — even if the timing isn’t quite right yet.
