We are living the days we always dreamt of 😭❤️ Having Jack walk out with our daughter was something we have imagined and talked about for years, before she even existed. It was a big ask for such a tiny, sensitive soul but I couldn’t be more proud of her🥹 One day she will look back on these memories and be so proud of everything her Dad accomplished, and I hope she will laugh at the few tears spilled along the way 😂 I just love my family, and I love watching them shine ❤️💎 by @jackells95

We celebrated our baby girl’s first birthday. Not in the way we planned to, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. In a world and time that makes absolutely everything seem important and needing perfection, this experience really proved to me there’s really very few things that matter at all: Our health. Us being together in our home. Sharing a coffee with my husband while our daughter plays. Our family and friends who held us up when it felt like we couldn’t stand on our own feet. I struggle to find the words when I’m talking about this event, I think I always will. But what I do know is that fate ensured that 8 of our most cherished loved ones had just flown in to be with us for Clara’s party, right before Jack got sick with sepsis. I know that while I wept in fear, my daughter was cradled in the arms of the women who raised me. I know that Jack’s recovery has been almost impossibly fast, and that his love for us is what pushed him through. It wasn’t the birthday celebration on my Pinterest board, but I can think of no greater testament of what it means to unconditionally love. A true celebration of life, for what it really is. Messy and unpredictable and fleeting and beautiful all at once. When my daughter looks back on photos of her first birthday party, I hope that is what she sees. An army of people who love her and our family, a mother who dug deep to still make it special. As for the photos taken a few weeks later, she will see a father who fought with everything he had to get home to her unscathed. My heart is changed, but so so full. by @jackells95
