📍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Old Man of Storr, Isle of Skye

The Old Man of Storr is one of Scotland’s most famous natural landmarks, formed by a massive ancient landslip that reshaped the Trotternish Ridge thousands of years ago. The towering rock pinnacle stands over 50 metres (160 ft) tall and is made from volcanic basalt, a reminder of Skye’s dramatic geological past.

According to local folklore, the rock is said to be the thumb of a giant buried beneath the landscape. Today, the hike attracts visitors from across the world, rewarded with breathtaking views over the Sound of Raasay, rugged cliffs, and the Isle of Skye’s wild coastline.

One of the most iconic moments in Skyfall wasn’t filmed on a movie set, it was filmed right here in Glen Etive, Scotland.

This is the exact spot where James Bond stands beside the legendary Aston Martin DB5, surrounded by the dramatic Highlands before continuing towards the Skyfall estate.

📍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Eilean Donan Castle

Built in the 13th century on a tiny island where Loch Duich, Loch Long and Loch Alsh meet, it was originally created to defend the Highlands against Viking raids.

The castle was destroyed by government warships during the Jacobite Rising in 1719 after Spanish soldiers used it as a stronghold, and it remained a ruin for nearly 200 years before being faithfully rebuilt in the early 1900s.

Today it’s one of Scotland’s most photographed landmarks and has appeared in films including Highlander and The World Is Not Enough.

Perched on a rocky promontory above Loch Assynt, Ardvreck Castle has stood here since around 1490. Built by the MacLeods of Assynt, it became the scene of one of Scotland’s most famous betrayals when the Marquis of Montrose was captured here in 1650 after his defeat at the Battle of Carbisdale.

Just a few years later, the MacLeods themselves lost the castle to the Mackenzies, and by the early 1700s it had been abandoned after being badly damaged. Local legend also tells of the ghost of Eimhir, said to haunt the ruins after a tragic clan dispute.

Today, with the dramatic peaks of Quinag, Canisp and Suilven surrounding Loch Assynt, Ardvreck Castle is one of the most photogenic and atmospheric ruins in the Scottish Highlands. taken in Scotland, United Kingdom by @jackfranklin_93
