Hello insta peeps! Here’s a very special piece. I’m so curious what it evokes in you and perhaps thoughts on a title?

I started this piece about 5 years ago… A whole lot of life has happened since then and for one reason or another this piece got put on the back burner. What a wonderful feeling to come to a completion and the sense of a both a return and a moving forward. Swipe for process! Much love y’all!

A few more minis! Working on making beads to adorn sculptures and for jewelry down the line...

I love how they feel like a microcosm of the natural world and capture an essence rather than a full likeness. It’s taken me a long time to find my way into more simplicity of form. Restraint and capturing the feel rather than detail is much more difficult than it looks! Changing scale, color and lacking in specific features while still clearly representing the gestalt of a being and offering a clear symbol to the viewer… what a task.

The question is what is essential? How much information to provide and how much can the viewer fill in the gap. Both specific and nonspecific all at once. I often think of Plato’s world of forms. Operating under an assumption of the reality of “the other world” where the one could say the essence, blueprint, or archetype of the thing reside- how would pure “rabbit-ness”, “fish-ness”, “humming bird-ness” feel or look or be?

Anyways, thanks for taking a little walk in my thought world. Having fun and enjoying the philosophy inherent in making physical form manifest from the ethers over here.

Hey everyone!! Big updates —

I’m officially on the move to Asheville, NC for a summer residency at @odysseyclayworks, and to live in those magical Blue Ridge Mountains. Feeling beyond excited and deeply grateful. ✨

And! For those who don’t know, I just spent a month training at Zen Mountain Monastery in the Catskills. We woke before the sun, practicing meditation, chant, and ceremony in the Soto Zen tradition. We also completed a week-long silent retreat (sesshin), meditating around 7 hours a day — one of the most intense and meaningful experiences of my life.

I was almost entirely off my phone, living in a vibrant, intentional community and devoting my time to cultivating presence, awareness and compassion. The land felt so alive, and the way the community lives in reverence to nature was unlike anything I’ve experienced before.

It was really special to be surrounded by people committed to cultivating compassion — within themselves and for the world. I have so much more to share, but for now, that’s the update :)
