SUPPORT ANNOUNCEMENT!
Glasgow guitar whiz Jack Mellin opens for Wendy Eisenberg at @thegladcafe on Wednesday 4th November. Tickets running low!
🎟️: www.thegladcafe.co.uk
--
Jack Mellin is a guitarist from Glasgow. Alongside his prolific work in an eclectic mix of bands in the city, Jack's solo material is a wide-ranging sonic blend of improvisation, instrumental guitar compositions, noise, folk cycles and lyrical songs.

Wendy Eisenberg has spent the past decade as a fixture of independent music and an artist of inspired multiplicity. As a singer-songwriter, improviser, and virtuoso guitarist, the coordinates of their artistry are ever-shifting, from art-rock to jazz to blistering free improv and eloquent folk. On catalog highlights including 2020’s Auto and the 2024 free-jazz sprawler Viewfinder, they’ve made a signature of ambition. After spending the past five years experimenting in different bands, genres, and creative challenges, and following a period of self-confrontation that they liken to a personal exorcism, Eisenberg has arrived at a milestone. The poetic and formally daring folk songs of Wendy Eisenberg comprise their most certain vision yet. taken in The Glad Cafe by @jackjmellin

Zach Rowden is a musician based in New Haven, Connecticut. His work is focused in the areas of drone, repetitive structures and noise. Collaborators and projects include - Tongue Depressor, Hyperion Ensemble/Iancu Dumitrescu, Windscour, Red Yellow Blue Green Black, Leila Bordreuil, Aki Onda, Arien Wilkerson, and Paul Flaherty.

Spring Newish Electronic Black Metal duo LVR and BOPPER stood at the point where Old Meldrum and the Ladywell meet when the veil is thin. On meeting they accepted the fate offered to them. Remove the content fae the heed and drap it onto the tape. Underneath the River Clyde after attending the Maryhill Wrecking Crew they initiated SPRING.

L Rock trio intent on tripping over themselves, as evidenced from conceptual audio antics and fuckery such as "no listen" release My Sisters Baby on GLARC and no practice 12 piece choir performance for Radiophrenia.

Today’s Radiophrenia commission at midday is a slightly reworked recording of a live performance by an expanded line-up of the Glasgow group ‘L’. The piece is a rewrite of the John Coltrane album ‘A Love Supreme’ featuring a choir of 11 additional members, each with their own individual instructions and prompts played to them through headphones. Anyone who was there at the Glad Café can testify to the chaotic intensity and sheer delight of this extraordinary performance.

Somewhere in the noise: A Love Supreme.

Recorded live at Glasgow’s Glad Café on the 2nd July, 2026.

The band is made up of vocalist/card magician Jack Paton, guitarist Jack Mellin, and drummer Laurie Pitt. Together, they perform intense, dissociative music that combines Paton’s confrontational spoken word with Mellin & Pitt’s blistering take on metal, jazz, noise and art rock. Paton’s earnest vocals veer from cartoon-croon to body horror—set to the microsecond by Mellin & Pitt’s pinpoint shredding. Through explicit narratives and technical demolitions, L create a tragicomic theatre of existential pain and absurd freedom. by @jackjmellin

When I saw guitar wizard @jjmellin playing an intimate living room gig in the southside of Glasgow two weeks ago I just knew we had to get in a room to make some noise together. 🤘 It's finally happened and here are some clips! 🫨 We went on a journey from post rock soundscapes through moody jungle to heavy beatdown. No practice, not working, not perfect, just feeling and flowing in the moment.
So grateful that our paths have crossed brother. 🪢

12/09/26 WILLIAM TYLER, ALEX REX, JACK MELLIN on Sat 12th Sept 😍

No other solo American guitarist this century has impacted that fecund scene quite like William Tyler. After crucial stints in Silver Jews and Lambchop, this adopted son of Nashville emerged at the dawn of the last decade with a string of inquisitive albums that paired the measure of his country rearing and classical enthusiasm with his ardor for post-modern experimentation, field recordings and static drifts folded beneath exquisite melodies. Tyler dug Chet Atkins and Gavin Bryars, electroacoustic abstraction and endless boogie. His productive little enclave of instrumental music has increasingly followed such catholic tastes, not only ushering new sounds and textures into the form but also critical new voices and perspectives.

And on the brilliant, bracing, and inexorably beautiful Time Indefinite, Tyler’s first solo album in five years, he steps at last into the widening gyre he helped create. The guitar serves as a starting point for an album that will make you reconsider not only Tyler but also the possibilities and reach of an entire field. A vortex of noise and harmony, ghosts and dreams, anguish and hope, Time Indefinite is not a great guitar record. It is a stunning record—a masterpiece of our collectively anxious time, really—by a great guitarist.

Alex Rex is the 'ghost-rock' project of Alex Neilson (Trembling Bells, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Shirley Collins, Current 93 et al). Inspired by Greek Tragedy, Barbara Streisand and Alex's own internal critic, Alex Rex perform songs of love, loss and loathing that make the detestable whistleable.

Jack Mellin is one of Glasgow's most dexterous and multifaceted guitarists, whether playing shimmering love songs with his indie rock group The Mary Column, the absurdist hardcore band L, experimenting with free-form noise and texture in duo Tocsin Baluster or labyrinthine finger-picking loopyness under is given name: Jack Mellin always makes beautiful music! taken in The Old Hairdressers by @jackjmellin
