Roughly a year ago I was diagnosed with a heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. I was at the peak of my cycling, pushing my heart every race and interval session when it was all stripped away. I cried out to God asking why this was all happening but also trusting that he has a purpose and a plan for my life.

I’ve met with countless doctors talking through my different options and the ultimate conclusion was to have an ICD installed due to the thickness of the septum in my heart. In my case, I have not had a cardiac event and this is a preventative procedure. This device will allow me to exercise and live a normal life, lessening the chance of a life threatening event.

This morning, the procedure to have an extravascular implantable cardioverter-defibrillator was performed. I just want to thank all of the friends and family who have been praying for me as I’ve had a lot of anxiety leading up to today. I also want to thank the amazing doctors for helping me live a long healthy life and my parents for being there for me every step of the way.

I am currently spending the night in the hospital with a good amount of pain where the two incisions were made. I would love prayer for a good nights rest and a smooth recovery as I head back to college in Colorado in 2 weeks.

I hope to use this procedure as a part of my testimony. My identity is not found in any earthly body or possession but my identity is found in God. He has a purpose and a plan for my life even if it doesn’t align with mine. My heart belongs to the Lord.
