I started listening to Dopey pretty early on.
At the time, I was in my first treatment center in California. When I finally got transferred to outpatient and got my phone back, the podcast became my only real place of refuge. I was so psyched to finally have some company through the stress and discomfort that had become my life.
One morning I woke up, saw a new episode was out, and was as excited as a pig in shit. Then I read the description and remember feeling completely confused:
“Chris’s tragic overdose and death.”
Wait. Isn’t one of the hosts named Chris? Surely he can’t die—he exists only to provide me with comedic ramblings and gnarly war stories while I finish this IOP program.
It shook me then, as it does now.
I’m so proud of Dave, @dopeypodcast, his family, friends, and the Dopey Nation. No doubt Chris would be blown away by the impact this show has made and continues to make.
