If you would’ve told me just a few years ago in college that I would take a job teaching dance and that I would love it this much, I definitely wouldn’t have believed you. Boy was I wrong!

Prestige has provided more joy and clarity in my life in the last 2 years than I could’ve ever hoped for. I’m thankful every day to get to teach such hard working students and to be surrounded by the most inspirational staff and boss in Miss Jess! The growth these students have made this year is truly remarkable!

I’m so grateful I landed here at the time I did and that I was able to gain a deeper love for dance than I had before! Onto year #3!🩵 by @jackmdelaney

Well worth the wait! Who would’ve freshman year Jack would’ve made it this far! I’m proudly leaving the University of Iowa with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance, a degree I’ve dreamed of since starting high school! In 4.5 years I got to perform 14 pieces, choreograph 3 pieces and a capstone, teach over 30 classes, choreograph 5 show choir shows (4 of which were completely on my own) and assistant directed 2. The best part about this whole experience was that I was blessed to be surrounded by so many amazing artists everyday! I grew so much because of who I was around and formed friendships to last a lifetime!

Thank you to all my professors, classmates, coworkers, past instructors, show choir directors, and former teammates for the immense impact you’ve had on my dance career in the last 16 years! Each of you played an integral part in all the endeavors leading to this and I’m incredibly grateful!

The most important thank you goes to my amazing parents, sisters, brother in law, extended family, and my friends for their tremendous support throughout this process! Without it, who knows where I would be! I love you guys dearly!!

And to Grandpa Bill, thanks for raising me to be a Hawkeye (even if I was a cyclone fan for 7 years up until the day I got into college)! The day we talked about for years is here! I know you and grandma were watching from the best seats today!

A lot of people have been asking what my plans are. I’m proud to say I will be continuing my teaching career at Prestige Dance Studio! I’m a year and a half in and I love getting to teach so many kids! This year I started a new role as the instructor for the community dance and cheer performance teams which I’m excited to continue! I’m in an environment where I’m pushed and challenged while being immensely supported, motivated, and inspired. I couldn’t think of a better place to continue my love for dance! I also plan to continue show choir choreography and clinician work when I can!

It’s extremely bittersweet to close this chapter but the lessons I’ve learned will always be with me! I did the damn thing! Forever a Hawkeye💛 by @jackmdelaney

The final bow💚

As I reflect on my time in the Department of Dance and the year long journey to return to the stage, memories and emotions are flooding back. After all the obstacles in the last two years, I’m so glad I made the choice to stick it out even if it meant delaying graduation to December.

I finally chose to dance the way I wanted to, not to satisfy someone else’s expectations of what I should do. I stood true to myself, told my story, and honored my grandfather’s legacy. The outcome was better than I could’ve ever hoped for. The support I had during this process carried me to the end.

Though my time in the department is ending, I will look back with gratitude for the person I became, the personal growth I experienced, and for the friends I gained who helped in every step of the way.

Thank you to my BFA cohort for everything. The show we created was so special and I’m so inspired by all of you! I’m so proud of all of us and what’s in store. It was such a rich four years because of you all!
