For as long as I can remember, baseball has been a part of who I am. It’s what so many people have known me for, and for years, I gave this game everything I had. I put countless hours, early mornings, long practices, tough losses, and so much of my heart into becoming the best baseball player I could be. I dreamed about playing at the next level, and committing to Methodist University was something I once thought would be the beginning of the next chapter of that dream. That’s what makes this decision so difficult. One of the hardest things I’ve had to accept is realizing that the love I once had for something I gave so much of myself to isn’t the same anymore. It’s hard to walk away from something you spent years chasing, especially when it has become such a big part of your identity. Baseball gave me some of the best memories I’ll ever have, and even though my journey with the game is changing, I will never forget everything it taught me or the people it brought into my life.

After a lot of prayer and reflection, I’ve come to believe that God is calling me toward a different path. I don’t fully understand why He has brought me to this point, and honestly, this decision wasn’t easy. There is a certain kind of heartbreak that comes with losing the love for something you once couldn’t imagine living without. But I’m learning that sometimes God asks us to let go of something we love because He has something else planned for us. I’m choosing to trust Him, even when I don’t know what comes next. To my family, coaches, teammates, friends, and everyone who has supported me throughout my baseball journey, thank you. You helped make this journey something I will always be grateful for. Baseball will always be a part of my story, and I will always love the memories and lessons it gave me. I’m not walking away because none of it mattered. I’m walking away because it mattered so much, and I know in my heart that God is leading me somewhere else. I may not know where that road leads yet, but I’m ready to trust Him and take the next step. Proverbs 3:5 by @jackson.burr5

I wanted to share something God has been teaching and guiding me through these past couple of months: His path for us doesn’t always look like the one we planned.

One of the hardest things is accepting that something we prayed for, worked for, and believed was meant for us may be something God is asking us to let go of. For me, that was baseball. It had been a huge part of my identity for as long as I can remember, so losing my baseball career was something I never thought I’d have to face. After years of working toward the next level and signing to play at Methodist University, it felt like God was taking something away from me.

But through prayer, Scripture, and looking back on everything that happened, I’m beginning to see it differently. Maybe God wasn’t taking something away to hurt me, maybe He was protecting me in a way I couldn’t understand at the time. Romans 8:28 reminds us that He works all things together for the good of those who love Him. That doesn’t mean everything that happens is good, but it means He can bring purpose out of what hurts.

If everything had gone the way I wanted, I may never have experienced this kind of growth in my faith. Losing baseball has been painful, but it has also brought me closer to God and taught me to seek Him when I’m confused, trust Him when I don’t understand, and depend on Him beyond what I can see.

I may never fully understand why my baseball career ended the way it did, but I’m learning that I don’t need to understand everything to trust the One who does. God was good before I lost baseball, He was good while I grieved it, and He is still good now. Sometimes what feels like God taking something from us is actually Him protecting us, redirecting us, or reminding us that our identity is found not in what we do, but in Him. by @jackson.burr5
