Today, October 16, is World Restart a Heart Day! 🫀⚡

Did you know that 7 out of 10 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen at home? Immediate CPR from a bystander can double or even triple a victim’s chance of survival. You don’t need special certification to save a life—you just need to know two simple steps:

2️⃣ PUSH HARD & FAST in the center of the chest to the beat of the song “Stayin’ Alive” 🎵

If you see someone collapse and suspect Sudden Cardiac Arrest, remember: you have the power to save a life. ⏱️❤️

When every second counts, knowing what to do removes hesitation. Here are the 3 critical steps to take immediately:

1️⃣ CALL 911
Dial emergency services right away. If others are around, point directly to someone and say, "Call 911 and find an AED!"

2️⃣ PUSH
Start Hands-Only CPR. Place your hands in the center of the chest and push hard and fast (100–120 beats per minute—to the rhythm of "Stayin' Alive"). Do not stop until emergency help arrives or the AED is ready.

3️⃣ SHOCK
If an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is available, turn it on immediately. The device will guide you with clear voice prompts and will only deliver a shock if necessary. You cannot harm someone by using an AED, but you can save their life!

By taking action, you can turn a emergency into a story of survival.

Would you know how to spot Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)? 🫀

SCA happens unexpectedly when the heart’s electrical system malfunctions, causing it to suddenly stop beating effectively. Because every second counts, recognizing the signs immediately can save a life.

Key signs to watch for:
🔻 Sudden Collapse: A person abruptly falls to the ground and loses consciousness.
🔻 Unresponsiveness: They do not respond to touch, sound, or voice.
🔻 No Breathing (or Abnormal Breathing): The person stops breathing completely or is only gasping for air (gasping is NOT normal breathing).

Early warning symptoms (prior to collapse):
In some cases, warning signs may occur beforehand, such as unexplained chest discomfort, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, or sudden dizziness/fainting (especially during exertion).

If you see someone collapse and show these signs, take action immediately.

October is National Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month, a cause that is deeply personal to us.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time and often without warning. But with quick action, immediate CPR, and fast access to an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), lives can be saved.

At the Jackson Wayne Pixley Foundation, our mission is built around cardiac health awareness, SCA prevention, support for early detection initiatives, and empowering our community with life-saving CPR and AED education. We believe that being prepared isn't just a precaution—it’s a way to protect the people we love.

This month, join us in taking action:

❤️ Learn CPR: Get trained in hands-only CPR.
⚡ Locate AEDs: Take note of where AEDs are located in your local gyms, schools, churches, and workplaces.

WPW is a heart condition caused by an extra electrical pathway in the heart, affecting roughly 1 to 3 in every 1,000 people.

As we work behind the scenes to launch our community programs and outreach, earning these credentials is a huge step forward. It equips our leadership to bring hands-on CPR awareness, lifesaving instruction, and cardiac safety education directly to families, schools, and local organizations across our region.

❤️Jackson's Story❤️

At 14 years old, during a routine sports physical, an ECG revealed that Jackson had Wolff Parkinson White (WPW) Syndrome, a condition that affects the heart's electrical system.

An ablation procedure was attempted, but because of the location of the extra pathway, it could not be safely eliminated.

Jackson went on to live life to the fullest. He loved sports, his family, his friends, and brought laughter and joy to everyone who knew him.

On August 5, 2025, we lost Jackson to Sudden Cardiac Arrest at just 19 years old.

We share his story not to create fear, but to create awareness.

Many families have never heard of WPW until if affects someone they love. Through education, ECG screenings, CPR/AED training, we hope to help save lives and prevent other families from experiencing the heartbreak we have endured.

The Jackson Pixley Foundation was created in honor of Jackson and the legacy he continues to leave behind.

Happy heavenly birthday to my big brother.

Being jackson’s little sister was honestly the coolest thing ever. Growing up, I wanted to be just like him. He was fearless in a way that made you think nothing bad could ever happen to him. It was like he lived with 9 lives. He could walk into any room and instantly make it louder, funnier, and better just by being in it. There was never a dull moment with jackson. Somehow he could make the most serious situations funny and make everybody around him laugh without even trying.

Jackson just had this energy about him that people were naturally drawn to. He made friends everywhere he went, and he never changed who he was for anybody. What you saw was exactly what you got with him, and I think that’s why so many people loved him so much. Being around jackson just made life feel exciting. He always had a story to tell, a joke to make, or some random idea that somehow turned into a memory everybody still talks about.

I think that’s why losing him still doesn’t feel real sometimes. Because somebody with THAT much life in them just doesn’t feel like they’re supposed to be gone at 19 years old.

Now every little thing reminds me of him. Every little wayne song, every golf ball, every football jersey , every loud joke. It’s like he left pieces of himself everywhere.

I chose the song “good riddance (time of your life)” for this because it reminded me of jackson instantly. Not because of the “good riddance” part, because there will never be anything good about losing him. But because jackson truly lived the “time of your life.” He lived loudly, confidently, and fully every single day, and somehow made everybody around him do the same. And that makes me want to live out in the same way.

308 days later and I still miss you just as much as day one. I hope heaven is treating you good, pix. I love you forever. Keep watching over us🪽♥️ by @jacksonpixleyfoundation
